My latest project involves a $5 retractable 24' dog leash from Harbor freight, the cord inside is similar diameter to Paracord and isn't hard on your hands, I popped the screws out first and removed the locking button (circled in red) so it doesn't accidentally get hit during my climb. As well as replacing the chrome plated and loud hook on the end with a much quieter carabiner. I currently have it secured in the side pocket of my pack so I can simply hook my bow up to it on the ground and climb the tree with it feeding out of my pack while I climb. Then when I reach hunting height I hang my pack and pull my bow up while the line automatically retracts and has no tangles.

Eventually I may paint it or wrap it in camo tape so I can hang it on the outside of my pack but for now the side pocket should work great.c2e248d494958c0a6e4c5cee3d105e0b.jpg6ecc475584ced9069a1bf4d88dc7aaf4.jpg

That is a great idea. I still have the wind up rope on my Summit, but this would be a better option.
I've used a wind up rope for years but without fail when I lower my bow down at the end of the hunt and climb down I find myself standing in the dark at the bottom of the tree cursing while I try to untangle my rope from every twig and stick it wrapped around on the ground when I climbed down. I needed something that will keep tension in it the entire time and not have a ton of loose rope swinging around wrapping around branches while I climb

That is absolutely the problem. It's even more fun if there's a whisper of wind that catches it.

I have heard of people using a Doyle's hoist,no idea how much it costs. Same idea as the retractable dog leash.

I use my 11.4 mm climbing rope to pull up my bow,it has a clip on the end anyway and a rope that thick is next to impossible to tangle. Another plus for my climbing method! Plus I get to rappel like batman.

In the past , I’ve used the water bottle pocket on my pack, like a rope bag . In rope rescue , rope is fed into the open top of a “ bag “, then it plays out tangle free in use , and simply stuffed back into the bag after. You get tangles when coiling up rope .

Here’s a couple quick pics. Standing end of rope is tied to drawstring , running end has carabiner ( I don’t use this one lol , it’s all I had for a pic. ) rope is feed hand over hand into bag, carabiner can be hooked on outside of pocket or drawstring . At stand clip to bow and climb .

Similar to what i use but I dont care for D rings.

Prefer a stout piece of wire ( heavy coat hanger)  wrapped  in electrical tape  i can slide it on and off quick . Bend it straight to pick up dropped items  and snag them and haul them up.  Also use it to hook limbs and pull out of way when more tension straightens the wire and pulls free..  also  good for hooking an apple  limb and shaking it while in the stand and watch deer come the the soubd of delicious apples hitting the ground.
