mowin Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Can't believe how much hype the government/media is putting on this eclipse. Free glasses, schools closing, even read some business will close for "safety" concerns, lol. Just about every store has glasses for sale. I've seen tee-shirts too. Even seen a add for dog glasses. It'll probably be a miserable rainy day, and there won't be much to see anyway. GreeneHunter, grampy, Steuben Jerry and 1 other 4
Bucksnbows Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 We kept our free glasses we got for one of those types of events in case we ever wanted them again. So I’ll dig them out if the weather cooperates. For me, the Hale Bop comet was maybe the coolest “sky event” as it was here for a long time on clear nights and was so easy to see, even with the naked eye. Meatball Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Over the top hype..... People are calling for stockpiling food, gas. The state is also giving out free glasses. I thought I saw somewhere that said the complete eclipse is only 15 minutes. I think people are going to be upset that the hype doesn't equal the experience.

Splitear Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 I have an eclipse viewing party set up for 4-H. We got free glasses for our kids, and have nice open area for viewing. I’m going throw out some soccer balls, hand out glasses, and when the show is over send everyone home. dbHunterNY, BowmanMike and grampy 3
BowmanMike Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 It is a once in a lifetime event, though fairly short. I doubt we will make the trip to the new property to see the full eclipse.

It’s just under 2 minutes in Syracuse, almost 4 minutes in Buffalo and Watertown. I remember the partial eclipse about 5 years ago which I watched here at home. It was very cool and memorable. The full eclipse should be even more so. I’m thinking of heading to Watertown to get the full experience. It will be weather dependent, but even if it is cloudy, the sun will disappear and you will experience full darkness for that short time. If it is clear you should be able to see the stars in the sky. This won’t happen in our area for another 330 years or so, it’s a once in my lifetime event that I can watch it in my backyard. Robhuntandfish Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 We got a drop from the state saying to stock up on items at the store and fuel up vehicles etc. Lol. That's a bit much. Will put a reminder to staff just before to be careful on the roads that afternoon as everyone will be looking up but that's about it. It's interesting for sure. How is the moon the exact same coverage area for the sun for their distances.....weird.....where's my foil hat? Otto Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Part of the problem the State and emergency services are concerned with is people that want to see the eclipse in the clearest sky, wherever that may be at that time. When the total eclipse was in the Midwest a few years ago there were traffic jams from people pulling onto the side of the highway when it occurred. Nomad 1
Lil zeek Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 My school is closed for a day because people are gonna be camping out in the parking lot. This is because apparently the eclipse is right over our school. Not complaining I will always take a day of! Robhuntandfish and grampy 2

They are talking about an extra 100,000 people in our county of 100,000. Wierd..I can cover the whole sun with a few fingers. Maybe the earth is flat..;) Robhuntandfish and mowin 2

mowin Posted March 23, 2024 Author Posted March 23, 2024 Client's of mine just reached out to me. I take care of their chickens when they are out of town. They are concerned about the well being of the chicken's as they will be in Europe. Asked me to do everything possible to protect them. I almost want to say I ordered special fowl glasses, and they would believe me.. do I need to do anything different for your hot tub? Special eclipse chemicals? riverrat, grampy and Ncountry 1 2
