Buckmaster7600 Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 11.25lbs without scope, not many willing to tote a 13lb gun in the woods. A solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. GreeneHunter, parkthejeep, DoubleDose and 2 others 1 4

I built a 300wsm ar10 a few years ago and all said and done I was still north of 8.5lbs and it went down the road. It would blow this debotchery’s performace away but still too heavy for practical use.
DirtTime Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 After finding the rabbit hole a few years ago, I'm a modern sporting rifle guy. Not sure there's a big need for this style rifle in 30/06, but it will sell just out of novelty if anything. When I came across it a few weeks back on their site it peaked my interest for a few hours, but not enough to put serious thought into a purchase. This style of rifle is gaining more and more of a foothold with a lot of hunters. They aren't everyone's cup of tea though. Yep, they are heavy, and nope they sure aren't your grandpa's trusty lever gun, but they still have a place in the hunting world.
Bucksnbows Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 I’m old fashioned and prefer a bolt action rifle for my big game hunting, but the overwhelming majority of eastern hunters are deer hunters and shooting off some form of shooting rail from some form of stand or blind. For those hunters, rifle weight is of little concern. I certainly wouldn’t want to lug it around on a spot and stalk hunt. I still bet most guys are hiking some distance to a stand. I know there are folks that will drive their quad right up to their blind and sit in there with a heater, but I don't see these guys consistently knocking down mature deer either. That said, you're right in that we're not crossing hells canyon glassing for elk either haha. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12
dbHunterNY Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 (edited) i don't care to bring it deep in but i'd much rather bring my Remington 742 that came from my grandfather with me than that. If i'm hauling around an ar10 that heavy it's going to have to be something that will reach way out there. a cheaply manufactured novelty 30-06 aint it. lol Edited March 29, 2024 by dbHunterNY Splitear 1
G-man Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 Just not a fan of ar platform.. I prefer a classic wood stocked rifle. Nephew in military and his friends loves em. probably why they are becoming common. Used in military and familiar to those that served in last 50 years... Splitear 1
