Redneck4Life Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 My 10 year old son Brantley made a our local 10u travel baseball team. Our team used to be Kangaroo Court North now they will go by the Lake Champlain North Brewers. We found out our first tournament is April 22nd and 23rd. The Salt City Sports tournament in East Syracuse. Should be a good time waiting to see what my little man can do. This team practices every Thursday and Sunday for an hour and a half. Plus I just signed him up for personal batting practice at a new place in our local mall called Lake City Sports. Gonna try to give him the best advantage there is out there. All the coaches are calling him a natural not just batting but fielding also. We will see this thread ill post pics and stats hopefully you guys will add too it. nywaw, Doebuck1234, The_Real_TCIII and 1 other 4
ZAG Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Can’t recall who I recommended this book to on the other sites baseball thread I started but this books a must read for you!! Walter’s a damn expert in youth baseball. Helped us a ton on so many different levels with our son and saved us money no doubt. We spent time with Walter and follow him on sm and YouTube. Baseball has been more fun and stress free watching out son (14) He’s a great guy and well respected around baseball. Really it’s a must read!! Redneck4Life 1

crappyice Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Pitchers and catchers reported for travel ball already!!! 4 days a week my boy (Hobart commit as a pitcher) with a few of his buddies who also play on the school team workout and concentrate on strength and flexibility. Very little throwing now. Im already tearing up thinking about his last HS game but so happy his hard work payed off so he gets to compete at the next level. ZAG, The_Real_TCIII and Redneck4Life 3

Bucndoe Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 (edited) The number one reason kids play sports is to be with their friends. There are many instances of starting them too early in a year round sport that they get burnt out and no longer want to play after high school. Kids should play as many sports as possible in the different seasons Edited December 22, 2022 by Bucndoe ZAG 1

Kids should play as many sports as possible in the different seasons First of all my kid wants to play football and all contact sports. Second is we had a couple of instances #1 him falling on the floor at school and being rushed to hospital after being unresponsive for five minutes. Second time he went down at home eyes rolling up in his head . Not a great experience for momma but I've seen it being a combat veteran. We had a ekg done which bothered him with the unpleasant nurse and hair pulling and scraping his scalp. Finally meeting with doctor said it was a vagal nerve response. But warned us against contact sports. His love is baseball and is very good at it according to everyone who watches him play. So layoff kids playing one sport. Staying healthy for one sport is what we intend to do. He plays hot corner second and center field. He gets his exercise and not getting beat up. Not trying to be a ass but I ll do what it takes to protect a diamond in the rough. The_Real_TCIII and crappyice 2
crappyice Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Every kid is unique and redneck certainly outlines a reason to support a year round baseball player. Both my boys played football, basketball and baseball but always played baseball lightly in the fall and winter. The last two years my kid going to Hobart played football, threw shot putt and weight for winter track so he could dedicate more of his winter to pitching and lifting specific for baseball- a lot of rest explosive movements with shot that translate to hitting and pitching. His twin brother hung up all other sports after breaking his leg playing football. He found crew and has been a year round tower since freshman year. He is signed to row at Boston U next year. He would still Love to play baseball but his crew regiment is insane so it's just not possible. Redneck4Life 1

However my opinion is based on expiriences that you most likely haven't been through yet with a 10 year old. Been through 10U through college in multiple roles. The kids are easy, the parents and some coaches suck. Club Ball is a whole different animal and make Travel Teams look like rec ball. If you ever make it to a place like Cooperstown Dreams Park and watch or play a tournament there, you will see it. There are multiple Middle School, High School, and Division 1 College athletes in this household. Seen it all. If and when there is recruiting process in your future, buckle up for things you would have never thought of. Edited December 23, 2022 by Bucndoe Redneck4Life and ZAG 2

If and when there is recruiting process in your future, buckle up for things you would have never thought of. Wise words. We are half way thru the journey with our son. Parents and coaches are the #1 problem bar none. One thing that I have witnessed is how kids abilities can change from year to year. My son has 2 friends the same age, kids were as good as you could be in 10-12u, both pitched and hit really well, everyone wanted them. Better pitching than my son. Now a few years later and they barely pitched for their mod team and struggling hitting, where my son was a starting pitcher and dominated. This is just one of many. Other biggest takeaway I’ve learned is these games don’t mean shit to anyone but the parents. Relax enjoy the journey, you will enjoy watching your kid play if you realize this. The book if referenced is phenomenal and is a must read.
crappyice Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I get what you are saying Zag but if those games don't mean shit to your son, then what's he doing it for? My baseball kid simply loves to compete. It is what drives him to work all winter for a spring sport. Without that motivation why do it? Early studs peter out in every sport. The kid who works harder (and has some talent) wins in the end over the naturally bigger better kid. The kid who peaks early doesn't know what it's like to work hard to get where he gotta be later in the process. ZAG 1

The_Real_TCIII Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 My daughter burned out just when it was time for college lol, thankfully she got more than enough merit scholarships. She has four good friends/teammates that went to schools to play, all four have already quit. Its an absolute grind, no time for study or fun. She does plan to play club ball in the spring which is pretty competitive in the south crappyice and ZAG 2
