Deer Ticks,Black Bears, + DEET.

Recommended Posts

So next Monday is the New Jersey Turkey Season Opener. This year,I will make sure to use a Spray with 40% Deet on my clothes and Daypack,I sit on.

Permitherin does not seem to faze the Black Bears.  I had a Black Bear last Spring in North New Jersey investigate my Calling Location,I just left.

I have also had 3 Black Bears Snort and Lumber off while,I was well covered with either Repel,Cutter, or Deep Woods.

Last Spring in North Jersey,I had a Black Bear following me around while wearing Permitherin.  Mostly though,I don't  want to Kill one.The old Bead on the Nose and Copper Plated #4s.

For my Neck,I use something with no Deet. I always carry 2 Good Knifes when,I Hike or Turkey Hunt. Never know what is on the other side of a Huge Boulder.

I can't  prove any of this regarding Permitherin vs DEET in repelling Black Bears. I also carry a big 7.5Oz can in with me. I prefer the Spray rather then a slow pump. If,I see a Black Bear- which is often,I also Spray the Air and spray down well again.

Ask yourself how many black bears attack hunters armed with shotguns and once you reach the conclusion that number is 0.00, you will stop worrying about being attacked.  Spring turkey season is the one time I will play the wind and follow bears through the forest to watch their behavior. I’m in full camo and armed and they never see me. Love watching them flip logs or rocks to get to food underneath.

The ticks are much more dangerous than the bears.

Any bears taking a look at a pair of old timers like Bill or me are seeing the equivalent of a charred London broil left on the grill too long.  Tastes like shoe, so they’ll just mosey along looking for a tasty garbage dumpster full of goodies.

Not worried at all about being attacked. I was in Jersey 3 hours yesterday way off Trail.

Just don't  want to kill one outright and go through the Red tape of reporting that.

Don't  worry about me- lol,I am part of the woods. I am open to anyone wanting to Hike 3+ hours with me  over Hill and dale.
