GreeneHunter Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Looking to have some work done on a couple guns I own , any suggestion for a Gun Smith around the Albany Area ? Perhaps a 50 mile radius !
DirtTime Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Depends on the work. Most can mount a scope or maybe drop in a new trigger. Restock or drill and tap for a scope not so much. I think -think-, Uncle Sams in Troy might do so smithing but not 100% positive. GreeneHunter 1
Buckmaster7600 Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 McGregor gun shops, off exit 18 on the northway. He’s cut and added sights to probably 15 rifles for me and has always done a great job. Should be a quick turn around this time of year. DirtTime, dbHunterNY, grampy and 1 other 4

They can mount optics, swap or drift pistol sights, etc. tapping for scope mounts, stock bedding, etc i doubt it. if they do they're sending it somewhere and maybe charging a little extra. they're very heavy into tacticool shit that's bolt together and go. just my opinion for going there over the years. wouldn't hurt to ask though.

Two years ago I inquired about having the stock on a rifle swapped out and they could not do it. I was thinking of having the flash hider on the new rifle removed and have the barrel capped and I don't think they will do it unless they have to do it for a sale.

I've brought a Bear Creek upper into the Rt9 Latham Outdoorsman store. They broke free and removed the flashhider. sold me a cap to fit. I'm sure American Shooter Supply guys would do it too.
sbuff Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Unfortunately it's a lost art , depending what exactly you want done would be dependent on my answer .. Brian's a good guy but his shops are limited to an extent . DirtTime 1

I'm an hour out from American Shooters now, Outdoorsman in Cahoes is closer and they tried to tell me a stock from Magpul didn't exist, but low and behold I ordered one from Magpul because it does in fact exist LOL. I like the shop, but geez man..
