nywaw Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Hey guys and gals, as I've been transparent about, we are adding ads to the site (which will present the same as NJ Woods & Water) to help generate revenue to offset costs, contribute to Giveaways and Contests, etc. I know you guys have gotten used to not having them for a bit here, so please give it some time to adjust. In general, ads are easy to scroll by and should never interfere with site content. In the event you see any issues with site content being blocked by an ad, big layout shifts/jumping causing the screen to jump away from content you're reading, etc then we want to know about it so we can get it addressed. With that said, you'll see these go live with ads between content, on the sidebar, and in the footer of the page shortly. If you experience any issues, as always, just post here and we'll figure it out! Feel free to check out NJ Woods & Water to get a feel for what it should be like! https://www.njwoodsandwater.com mowin, Robhuntandfish and Bucksnbows 2 1
Bucksnbows Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 @Rustyand I are very used to this format. If anyone is interested in what’s coming, here’s a link to the NJWW site where ads run regularly. https://www.njwoodsandwater.com Rusty, mowin and nywaw 2 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
mowin Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Just checked out the NJ site. Adds were up top on my mobile and definitely not in the way or in your face. nywaw and Bucksnbows 1 1

Rule #1 is it can't block content or the user experience. Having ads placed where they can be scrolled by easier to view more content is key. mowin 1
phade Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) First two threads I clicked on ad bars at the bottom of my phone appeared and I had to X/close out of them. Meh. I don’t mind the ones you scroll past but having to have me click close is annoying. Edited December 28, 2022 by phade

On the NJ site there is a fixed footer at the bottom, however it shouldn't block any content you are viewing (topic list, posts, PMs, etc) or active in (post/reply editor, PM editor, etc). The one at the bottom is one of the primary ads that earns revenue due to that "sticky" behavior. On the NJ site, we have a subscription for members ($15/year) to have it removed. I can put something like that in place here too. But give it some time to get used to. Like I said, ads (especially a new layout/format) takes time to adjust to and get comfortable with. I don't even pay any of them any mind when navigating around the NJ site, I know they're there but they don't distract me because my brain has just registered them as commonplace (versus when they first appeared, your eye is drawn to them because they are new). Agreed. I don’t notice them and they don’t get in the way of reading or posting on any threads. nywaw 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
ZAG Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 I don’t mind the ad’s until they start getting in the way and I have to try clicking a small x to remove it without actually hitting the link. nywaw 1

They're all scroll by except the one at the bottom of the page which is fixed and floats but has an X on the right to close out. It's designed to make it easy to close out of but also not to block anything you'd want to do. There shouldn't be anything under it you are trying to get to and need to close it in order to get to. No tricky ads here that are designed to make you click them.

You don't have to interact with the ad to type a reply or post it, ie there are no forced ad interactions ever.
Ncountry Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I see them .👍 Easy enough to scroll past. nywaw 1
