Question for the Bug Nerds?

Horrible picture for a guy that loves pictures.

Context?  Home or school?  If school, my guess is midges this time of year. Stream hatched or pond hatched. The warm sun will get aquatic insects to pop some winter days and midges hatch any day of the year.

They’re tiny,  in the woods on Sparta Mt,  next to a stream.   The ground is frozen and there are still patches of snow.   But as soon as the sun warmed the air, clouds of these little guys started dancing in the air.

That’s why I asked if by the school, because of the stream there.  The only insect that can create surface feeding any day of the year including winter months for the trout angler. They are a PITA as far as imitating their diminutive size with a dry fly. I prefer a Griffith’s gnat or a Klinkhammer midge for those times they are bringing up the fish.
