Nomad
So I’m going to the dark side and buying a range finder for ML in Tenn. we hunt largely out of box blinds on mowed lanes, and it’s somewhat easy to use my hunting app to take a couple measurements to the right and left . But I can see one being of benefit with the ML VS my flatter shooting 7mm08 up,here . I know zippo about them . Do they stay on ,so I can just pick it up and take a reading ? Looking around seems to be a bunch for $250 . I know I’ll,buy one then shoot a deer at 20 yards …. Heres a pic of the land , I also ground sit in the woods a bit . mowin
Mine automatically turns off, and as soon as I hit the button to range, it automatically turns on . It a Halo. Think it was under $200. grampy
I also have a Halo rangefinder. I just hold the button down a couple seconds and the range comes up in the eyepiece. Can get the numbers to appear in black or red. Seems very accurate. And I think it was a little under $200 a few years ago. Bucksnbows
I’ve been using a Leupold for well over a decade. Wouldn’t leave home without it. Any time I’m in a new stand, the first thing I do is take a bunch of ranges to obvious landmarks around me like a certain tree along a game trail, a boulder next to a trail, etc. I worry far less when gun hunting because I’m shooting a rifle I can hold basically dead on out to 300 yards but can seldom see as far as 200 yards and often 100 or fewer yards. Buckmaster7600
Mines a Leupold that’s I bought in 08 for a deployment because the leica’s we were issued sucked. I think it was around 300$ never an issue and it made it through 3 deployments. I don’t use it much but I think it still has the original battery. phade
I can check but I have Athlon Midas RFs. 1-2 I think. Can cut you a deal on it, they’re really good. Illuminated reading and it’s a one miler used by a lot of long range bombers. RF is probably a top 3 item I carry in the woods after my bow/gun. dbHunterNY
i never go hunting without one regardless if I have a gun or bow. Still rocking a Nikon Riflehunter 1000 I bought when it first came out in 2009. Advertised "Reflective Distance" are hard flat surfaces versus a tree line, shrubs, or critters. Standard feature is angle compensation to give you only the horizontal distance parallel with the ground that gravity acts on vs the actual line of sight distance. Makes a difference if you shot down or up large ridges or slopes. Mine has an illuminated display that i feel like is a pretty standard feature now. They typically have a couple button to wake it up/turn it on and second press to get a reading. another button for modes.

I think we talked about those before you bought that. Mine is the 1200 and works perfect . So e range finders won't detect a black objects very well . These do 100 percent of time. 2BuckBizCT
NYRturkeycall
I have some crappy Amazon special and it works real good for me. Seems to eat up batteries but all I do is put a piece of paper over the contact when it's not in use. Never had an issue with ranging 15 to 150 yd... Even works decent through brush. The nun bow hunting one. Because it's cheaper and it's a gimmick WOSPORTS Hunting Rangefinder, 800 Yards Laser Range Finder with Bow Hunting Mode (Angle, Height, Horizontal Distance) Scanning, Speed Mode for Archery Hunter, Free Battery, Carrying Case Palma non sine pulvere
