DirtTime
I think I might do some bear hunting this year. I have to do some looking on where to donate the bear if I manage to kill one. I don't mind the meat but I don't think the wife will like it, and even if she did I doubt she'd like it enough to want to eat that much of it. I have only been out actual bear hunting a few times, long ago, and never even found a track. There's a couple wandering the private land I hunt so I would like to give it a whirl. mowin
I'll definitely be on the lookout while out for deer. Going to NJ to try and thin out there heard in October. Love bear meat. My wife who will not eat venison, likes it. Go figure. Good luck. Bucksnbows and DirtTime 1

Larry
Like a lot of guys I've had opportunities too shoot bears and some pretty big ones. I just don't have any want or desire to kill one. I don't know if I like bear meat my wife for sure wouldn't eat it and I don't want to drag it out of the woods. So I just let them walk. Bear meat can be great if cooked right, and if cooked bad taste like grease covered string. I figure I have to get over and check brush blinds, so I might hold off a bit and go mid September and do some hunting while over there instead of just dragging and stacking small trees and logs around half the day. _

Biggest key when processing bear is getting it skinned and cooled quickly. Next is removing every possible piece of fat, even between different muscles. Bear fat taste horrible. At least hunting that land I have help getting it out of the woods. mowin 1 _
Buckmaster7600
I’ve killed a couple and tried a bunch more, I don’t care how you cook them some suck and some are ok. I won’t shoot another unless it’s within sight of the truck and I want the rug. Unfortunately the big woods bears that I’ve had tend to worse than the ag bears I’ve eaten. They’re just too much of a pain to get out of the woods on the public land that I hunt to be worth trying to kill one.

Where in Maine? I've taken 2 with the bow in Maine. First was a guided hunt. The 2nd a good friend baited some public spots.

I wonder how the supposed “blueberry bears” taste/ stack up? fletchny11

Buy the time the season is open, I'd imagine it wouldn't make a difference. To much time eating other stuff. My northern Maine bear tasted just as good as the one near the blueberry fields.
