I wont have a choice unless I heal before October. I could manage 4 shots yesterday and it wasn't without extreme difficulty. I'm hoping for a cortisone shot in September.

Getting old is no fun. Especially the first time it happens where you can’t do what you used to at the level you used to.

I know this is going to sound dumb but would you get a narrow limb bow and roll the dice. Legal is legal and I don’t advocate for breaking rules Willy Nilly but that one is dumb and it appears to be a non factor unless you’re doing something really dumb. Majority of xbows I sold are narrower than legal and customers wanted them. Again not saying right or wrong but sheesh. The development of xbows is almost predominantly in the narrow bows now since we’re one of the few maybe only with such crazy laws.

When I used an xbow I was always a big fan of excalibur. Maybe they are outdated now, but I loved the recurve style of them. Took 2 minutes to change a string myself. If you lived closer, I'd let you use my old excalibur vortex that is collecting dust. Or take a day trip to CT to scoop it up for the season?

I will say that I still very much hold my belief that able bodied dudes should be using a compound or trad bow and as well documented for a very long time, those who cannot pull a bow back should be able to use a crossbow. With all that reiterated, I'm with you. Like why the hell is there a limb restriction? There are some real nice crossbows I can't touch for legal reasons. Also, this is hopefully a short term thing and even more hopefully one I can get corrected prior to the season starting, but staying sub $1k would be nice too. Some of these crossbow prices are insane.

But yeah, I thought about it haha. In very little research this seems to be the only NY legal bow at or above the 400fps range and I like the cocking and decocking feature. I literally know nothing about crossbows outside of having shot one years ago the make and model of which I have no idea lol.

If you don’t plan on spending a pile the KI Vital X is pretty cost effective and has a good history in the price point. It’s not an upper end bow but $ for $ I’d probably put it at the top in terms of value and performance. Scope you’ll need to get a new one. A lot of the kit optics suck. The cocking and decocking is a little clunky and not as practical as one might think. I have one on my Ravin and it’s clunky and slower than a rope cocker when in stand or blind IMO.

this appears to be their flagship. It's wider, doesn't have the cocking and more expensive

wow. I paid half that in 2011 i think. But that also looks like a package with arrows, quiver, etc.

It's one of the two I've been looking at.  NYS compliant and internal cocking.

But I'm really considering the Excalibur suppressor. Yes it's more $$, but the simplicity of it and being able to change the string easily in the field really appeals to me.  Doesn't have the internal cocking, but does have there newest external cocking device which you can leave on and still shoot the bow, or stow it in your pack. Lifetime warranty too.

I cock mine on the ground , then put the bolt in it up on stand . Mine has a manual safety and anti dry fire feature .

Same. I will pull the box back before climbing. But even doing so in the stand isn’t hard. The cranks are a bit of a pain at times. Nice occasionally when not in a need to move with speed.
