Carbon credits

There are some companies that will pay landowners to keep forests and grasslands intact to offset carbon produced by other entities. Curious if anyone here participates and pros/cons. Worth it or nah?

I have in the past - it worked out just fine but the program is no longer offered in the same "configuration" that it was when I signed up.  Otherwise, I'd still be doing it.  Helped offset taxes but certainly didn't cover the full tax bill.

I'm just starting my research on this stuff and there are several companies, each with different rules. One of them is flexible in terms of allowing firewood harvest and food plotting. But not sure if worth not being able to do timber harvest for a long period of time but at the same time, a bunch of our tree species are being hit hard by diseases etc.

I don't think I'd be able to get behind a 20 or 40 year contract for this sort of thing.  Too many changes in the woods in that amount of time.  The 1 year program that NCX offered was perfect for my situation.  If they continued offering that, I'd still be enrolled.  https://ncx.com/learning-hub/why-did-ncx-stop-the-1-year-forest-carbon-program/

My woods are due for a thinning in the next couple of years, mostly for overall forest health but also because some of my marketable timber is nearing maturity.  I don't mind deferring that harvest for a little while, but 20 years is just too long for me to be able to maintain a healthy forest.

I keep seeing these on facebook ads but don't know anyone that has actually done it. Got deep into one of them and there was mention about the program actually pushing or helping you plant and what to plant?

Is there a clause that allows either party to break the contract prior to the 20-40 years ? No way I’d lock our land up without .

Our  general agriculture agreement is ten years , but lessor or lessee can break it at anytime .

We get offers to buy from out of town land companies all the time as well as the solar farm folks ,not a chance fellas .

We constantly get the solar farm ass holes stopping by to buy land. Not a chance people. However, we are going to allow a cell tower to go up on the farm. Maybe i will be able to take phone calls in my kitchen after that.  5G wouldn’t be a bad addition either.
