blackbeltbill
The Pignut Hickory is not in all areas of New York. This video gives the best description of the Small Nuts and most important- the very Thin Husks which break open easy for Wildlife/Wild Turkeys, etc. Look for the long Diamond shaped furrows and study this video. Look for the Pignut Hickory on Hillsides especially. Mattypotpie8s 1 Take The Multiple Use Area Challenge.

Bucksnbows
We have two in our yard. The squirrels will first strip our shagbark hickory and then move to our two pignuts. Mockernut are also around, and they are similar to pignut. blackbeltbill 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

I did some scouting yesterday, and while the reds have a decent crop, the smooth bark hickory's were empty. I did see a few shag bark that were loaded, but not many. Have to check the 4-5 white oaks on the other farm. Last 2 year they didn't produce. Edited August 31 by mowin Bucksnbows
