It peers over a steep cliff without being silhouetted too high. Works great. Inside the red of the pic attached you can see it. It looks down to the steep left for a righty gun shooter. 55-85yd shot in hardwoods before the deer come up to that bench Edited September 18, 2024 by 2BuckBizCT Red and Phantom 2
Rob-c Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 12 ft to the platform diy ladder stand. ive gone up 25 -26 ft in my climber , my pull rope is 25 ft long so i know when my bow would get pulled up to stop . Phantom 1
Bolt Action Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 For my ladder stands I just go with whatever comes in the box. For my climber and hang on, I'll usually set up wherever I have a break in the foliage that allows me good shooting options. They have been anywhere from roughly 8 ft up to close to 20 if I had to guess
broomeguy Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 6 to 17 feet usually. Height is where most of the foliage is. Really like trees adjacent to an evergreen tree. cervidchasers 1
will12785 Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I have one stand at the bottom of a steep bank the deer run that I'm probably 25' - 30' up
Swamp_bucks Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) 6’ and 20’ roughly average 12’ and that seems to do the trick for me Edited September 18, 2024 by Swamp_bucks Phantom 1
Wolc123 Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 My lowest is about 4’ and my highest is about 10’. Hunting in flat land, I’m most comfortable 7 or 8 ft up. That’s high enough to get me out of the crossfire and let the ground work as a backstop for my own shots and low enough to reduce the severity of injury from a fall. I’m not at all comfortable hunting from ground on flatland, having come very close to getting shot one time by a hunter who was completely blind to what was beyond the deer he was shooting at (me in blaze orange). I also find myself liking heights less and less as I get older.
nywaw Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 When no tree was available where I wanted to be, I've hung them right off the ground in brush just to keep my feet from making noise. And I've hunted as high as 35-40' before when I was younger but admit that is excessive (although you will get away with a lot with winds and movement). For many years I've hunted in the 25-30ft range and that's where I was most comfortable. I've only recently started to use 20' ladders more and notice the difference in the height in terms of deer checking me out, etc. Ultimately if you can get in cover, you can hunt any height with the right winds. My dad used to hunt from the ground quite often when I was growing up and he killed quite a few deer with the bow and gun. Miss those days! Rob-c 1
Fab Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 7 to about 28 Normally about 18 I had an old partner that use to use a 50 ft rope. Had a clip on each end. Clipped one end to the seat part of his api climber. The other end was clipped around the sling of his gun. When the gun started to lift off the ground he would stop. Said up that high the Woods open up. Deer don’t see u or smell u. Scares me over about 22. cervidchasers 1
G-man Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 3 ft is shortest and 24 ft was tallest.. most fall 14 to 16 ft.
Wolc123 Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) Most of mine are like this one these days: 4x4 foot fake wood deck with 3 foot high barnwood wall, 8 ft high tall front legs made from pt landscape timber’s, deck attached to tree in back. Swivel chair on deck. This was the view from this one last Saturday at 7:12 pm: Edited September 19, 2024 by Wolc123
