Phantom Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) Do you go for speed or mass in a hunting arrow ? How many grains do you shoot? Edited September 25, 2024 by Phantom
broomeguy Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 I go for accuracy. Rusty, The Back 40, Lil zeek and 2 others 3 2

Rusty Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 I hunted with traditional bows for many years, so I never got into the obsession with speed. I still shoot the heaviest shafts on the market with brass inserts and 150 grn heads. Phantom 1
Nontypical Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Accuracy is paramount which leads to a happy medium at 460 grains.
Caveman Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Out of a compound and shooting at whitetail, your best bet is probably a happy medium. In my experience, going too far in either direction usually introduces tuning issues or trajectory issues, and frankly, whitetail just aren't that tough to kill. If I were hunting pronghorn where a shot may be 75 yards, I might go for a fast light setup. And if I were hunting cape Buffalo I'd snort the fairy dust and shoot a 1000 gr. arrow slower than I could probably throw it. But neither of these are necessary to kill at deer at 30 yards. I shoot a 475 gr arrow (which is still a little heavy). It's a 27.5 inch Victory RIP TKO with 165 gr up front between a 100 gr broadhead, a 50 gr insert, and a 15 gr collar. It flies relatively flat, and I don't foresee penetration issues with a sharp fixed blade up front. Call me Goldilocks, I suppose. The_Real_TCIII 1
Swamp_bucks Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) Which ever gives me the best arrow flight, for me 450-500gr counting broad heads arrows seem to perform the best for my setup my broad heads are 100grains. Edited September 25, 2024 by Swamp_bucks Phantom 1
Phantom Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 I've been getting back into traditional archery the last few years, so I feel I need to use a decent weight. Using a 534-grain arrow seems like a good compromise. Two blade cut on contact Broadhead
