So in our newest food plot we left a few trees standing when they dozed it. One in particular is a hickory tree. Last yr they used this branch quite a bit. Only thing I noticed is once the leaves fell off the branch didnt lay as low and active seemed to drop off.

My thought was to maybe tie a rope around the branch, pull it down a bit and tie off around the trunk. This way the branch is always reachable regardless. I worry about mucking it up with sent and they bail on it. Thoughts?

Licking branches are used year round by the entire herd and typically become primary scrapes.   It is absolutely a good idea to tie the branch down.  Get in and out quick and you won’t disturb them all that much.

my vote is the less intrusion the better.   If you were trying to establish one within shooting range yes but one that is already getting hit that much I wouldnt mess with it.   Looking great there.  They are gonna have that all eaten to the ground though before mid Oct by the looks of it.   Youre sure drawing in the deer.

You could but bucks will keep doing what that one is right now.

If they are used to tractors or atvs on the property drive that in stand on it and make a hinge cut so it drops the branch down a little bit.  Then you have no ground scent, they still have their scent on existing branch and in there less than 5 mins.

My theory was to roll right up to it via quad, tie each end without getting off and get out.

Got it done. It was raining so that should help remove some sent. Pulled up on wheeler and tied off some bailing twine half way up the branch and lowered it just a couple inches and tied it off to another branch. Should work!
