I did some work for a buddy and he paid me with a rifle. She's an OG from the early 70s I believe. My first 30-06. I hate to say it but I find the basket weave sort of ugly so I need to wear it all off shooting big bucks

Google the serial number and see what the born on date is.   I’m guessing late 70’s or early 80’s.   
 

I had a .308 like that but it had a lefty cheek piece and safety.  I sold and now it’s  probably worth millions or maybe not.

When you find out the value of that rifle with the basket weave you won’t be looking for it to wear off. Lol.

Switch the butt pad and enjoy it with a limbsaver or pachmyr..you will enjoy it.

I have been shooting 7600’s in 35 rem and 35 Whelen since giving up my Remington 742 in 2004.

Recoil is not a problem. Don’t cut that stock for a recoil pad. It will be worth shit altered.

Agree. Keep it stock regardless if you like shooting it or not.

They aren’t nearly the same quality. I have 5 of the ten rounders for my 06. Basically they suck
