Petition  to change NY law to allow gold prospecting  and keeping of gold in NY.

NY is too greedy to change that. 

Good friend of mine lives in Maine and is big into gold prospecting.

Then you would think they would want gold prospecting.  Cant make any money if no one looks for it. Would be a fun past time, frustrating myself trying  to get flour gold out of NY.  Lol. Getting tired of having to go to PA  to do anything fun.

Agreed, should be changed. I tried it a couple years ago with my buddy.  Took us 15 minutes to find my first flake, then two hrs of nothing, lol.

Funny , I have a stream that runs through my property and never thought about doing that !

I've found a few flakes here and there. It's fun going looking for gold. Most streams in NY will have a little Placer gold. Left over from when the glaciers receded during the last ice age.

Years ago like when I was in my 20s a friend of mine was into paning for gold and said the same thing that almost any stream had gold in it. He had a half a baby jar full.

Can get a beginner  kit for pretty cheap and I have a good bolder filled stream behind my house full of glacial  till. Might mess around with a bit. Atleast get some practice  when I get sick of everyone and move to Alaska.  Lol
