Swamp_bucks Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) So I posted on here last year about my FIL who passed and gave me his guns in the will. My MIL was hesitant when I asked to borrow one for last season so I took it as she wasn’t ready. Haven’t worried about them since and was waiting until she called. she called and told me to come get everything. So I picked them up and here’s a list of what I have now. Pics are not in order Centerpoint 370, Mossberg 20guage, Steven’s 20guage, Remington sportmaster 22lr, Ithaca model 37 deerslayer 12 gauge, Winchester model 67 22 lr, lakefield mark 2 22lr, marlin model 336 32 special, Star Revolver made in Binghamton stamped 1858 patent, gun cabinet, 300 rounds of assorted ammo, box of new radios, and a bunch of cleaning kits. Robhuntandfish Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Very cool to have those stay with family. grampy and LET EM GROW 2 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson

Yep, the pistol has been in the family since 1800s, from what I’ve read that brand was only built between 1861-1867. It was my FIL grandfathers or great grand fathers. Not sure who was the first in the family to have it and if it was a gift, bought, bartered. Robhuntandfish, G-man, mowin and 1 other 4
Larry Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) That 32 special is nice. Easy to make ammo even if you can't find 32 special brass. All you need to do is neck up 30-30 brass. You can fire form them while practicing. Edited October 6 by Larry

I’ve got some friends looking for ammo if they are at a stores. I don’t plan on taking it out to much but will for at least a hunt or 2 this year. mowin 1
Next Time Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Very nice more importantly it stays in the family god bless
Swamp_bucks Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 Thanks everyone, there was 3 others in the collection but his wife’s brother asked if he could have those since they first belonged to his father. So I agreed to make sure they stayed in that family tree. To my knowledge since my FIL had these guns and we are talking 35-45 years no deer have been taken with any of them. Hoping to change that this year. grampy, cervidchasers, NYBowhunter and 3 others 4 2
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 7 Posted October 7 That is such a classic collection of firearms. All the representatives are there! Surprised no hawken .50 cal muzzleloader to round out the collection. Very nice bunch there, big fan of the Ithaca 37 especially. They're so freakin slick. Enjoy those. Swamp_bucks 1

Too bad it’s not a 16 though, they were the best. The 12’s look too fat and the 20’s too skinny.

They have been my favorites for as long as I’ve been hunting and I’ve killed more game with them than I have with all the other shotgun gauges combined. My dad has (2), a Browning sweet 16, and an old Ithaca demascus barrel side by side. Only one barrel works on that and I used it to kill my first rabbit when I turned 14. I’ve only shot his Browning twice, at two different ruffed grouse, and I killed them both. Maybe he’ll leave me that gun some day. My grandpa, on my mom’s side left me all his guns, which included an Ithaca 37 16 ga featherlight. I’d guess I have taken about 50 deer with that gun, roughly half of my total, and I only ever missed one time with it. I do believe that I killed my last legally antlered buck with it a few years ago. I still tote it a couple times each season. The miss was before I put the 1.5 Weaver scope on it, about the third year that I used it. It does kick like a mule, being so light, and packing nearly the same load as a 12 ga. The other 16, that he left me, is a J. Stevens Springfield side by side double, choked I/C and mod. That has long been my go to grouse and rabbit gun. I’ve never had trouble finding ammo for them. Mike103 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Targetsportsusa.com has 32 Winchester specials on their site for $45 a box. Good thing is they will ship to a FFL and you can pick them up. Nice gun. Swamp_bucks 1
