nywaw Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Just returned from a couple days fishing in upstate NY with my brother, two nephews and a friend. Always a great time getting away and hooking into some big fish in tiny streams! We mainly fish smaller tributaries with lighter crowds. We did pretty well each day but definitely slower than normal with the lower water. They need some rain up there to get the fish moving upstream. Seems like the bulk of fish and fishermen are down close to the lake entry, but we still managed to catch a few upstream more! mowin, Mattypotpie8s, Skillet and 8 others 11

Robhuntandfish Posted October 12 Posted October 12 I was at the hatchery yesterday and it was loaded with fish. Nice weather for salmon fishing for sure. nywaw 1 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson

mowin Posted October 12 Posted October 12 They have to be a blast to catch, or are they so tired out it's like dragging in a log? nywaw 1

Fresh up from the lake they have a lot of energy and will run you around quite a bit. Big fish for that size water and a lot of fun. mowin 1
BowmanMike Posted October 12 Posted October 12 You guys did it right, hit the small streams. I went years ago to the main stream and couldnt believe the crowds. That was not for me. Even though hooking a big fish like those is amazing in a stream. nywaw 1

We did a lot of walking and some sections up there are just straight brutal on your feet, but worth it if you find some fish.

They def put up a fight I've caught a ton of them. I've had to hold my spool and do break offs so they didn't spool me. Great having a 30lb fish jumping fully out of the water. mowin, Mattypotpie8s and BowmanMike 2 1 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson

The best times we had is when 7-8 of us all went together. We would dominate a hole so you could hook one and just get back there and in with your buddies. Teamwork with netting and hooking up. I used to go a lot in my youth but nowadays I prefer little wild fish in quiet places.
