Lawdwaz Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) I got a spot I moved a HD ladder stand last weekend and there’s a ton of smaller 1.5” or less (?) saplings and crap that need to go. 7-8 years ago at a garage sale I bought for $25 a Echo SRM 2110 with a whipped saw blade on it. At the time I started it up and it ran decently. Last week I went on Amazon and found a blade for it and then this morning I went to fire it up after installing the blade. I was somewhat surprised I could get it started (dumped the old gas out and added new) and it’d idle fine, giving it some juice and it bogged down. OK, I pulled the carb and hosed the heck out of it with carb cleaner and then when I put it all back together and started to prime it the damn primer bulb disintegrated. Fugg…….. OK, let’s just order a new bulb, carb and all associated parts for $16 from Amazon. Stay tuned but don’t get your hopes up. Edited October 13, 2024 by Lawdwaz Add pics. hueyjazz Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 I've cleared extensive trails and shooting lanes with a similar setup although I can tell you they make a carbide tip saw blade that works better and last longer. The blade is good to take down samplings 2" and smaller. Thick and tall grasses tend to jam the blade so there you are off with string, or I find my gas hedge trimmer works excellent. And oh, for those straight bar string trimmers you can also get a chainsaw attachment with extension bars. Very handy if you got a lot of work to do. I trim all over my mountain and my setup fits on ATV. I think you will be happy with it once you get it right. One warning, every last attachment that goes on these is dangerous to you and those around you. These actually came with a harness you are supposed to strap into to keep blade away from you. It's impossible to use unless you are on an unobstructed flat plain. Or at least that's the case for my Husky straight bar pro. If the old carb is working, see if you can replace just the bulb. Some of those cheap replacement carbs aren't so good. These Echo, Husky and Stihl straight bar units are all pro level and built to last. I've had mine for years and it has seen extensive use with a variety of attachments. I have to maintain 1/8 of a mile of access land through some woods to get to my house. It has never failed me and has been in crap weather. Always non-ethanol Lawdwaz 1
Rusty Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 I have a similar set up, it’s one of my favorite tools! Lawdwaz 1
Moog5050 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Yep I used one to clear ATV trails at my place. Worked great. The bigger stuff required a chain saw but up to 2” no problem. Lawdwaz 1

Lol I was hoping for recommendations and costs. I want to have it done but I keep changing my mind on what I want done, what's more important. I had some grand ideas what I'd LIKE to have done. Just to get an idea I contacted one company and asked what it would cost to cut a trail two car widths wide, by 100 and/or 200 yards long. I don't recall the exact number but it was twice what I was expecting. oof. As for your post. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EWFCUWK/ and this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015N8AV02/?th=1 Both work well. The second one worked great when I bought my Husky new. The next time I tried it, a year or two later (but not many more hours on the machine) it didn't seem as thrilled about the added weight. Didn't seem to spin it as fast as it did when new. That's why I bought the top one which I used a fair bit this summer. Edited October 15, 2024 by cas Lawdwaz 1

I had a forester out at my property and asked about having them clean up my existing trails/logging roads with a dozer, He told me that he would need to come in first with his forestry mulcher because he didn't want to scratch up his new dozer. He quoted me 8hrs. with the mulcher @ $285 per hr. to clean an existing trail and said it would be 8-12hrs. with the dozer @ $220 per hr. I told him to get F#cked! The hourly rate was not the issue, I understand how expensive the equipment is. It was the amount of time. I've seen mulchers completely clear 3-5 acres in a day on our build sites and I've personally cut in new roads with dozers in half that time.
mlamm24 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Both those per hr rates seem low when you factor in equipment and operator.....and I agree hrs. Should have been 1/2 that.
Lawdwaz Posted October 16, 2024 Author Posted October 16, 2024 (edited) The parts came late yesterday afternoon so today I R&R th carb, three hoses in the tank already in a plug that fits TIGHTLY into the fuel tank (includes a breather valve and new fuel filter), air filter assembly and new bulb. Two (2) pulls and it fired up. Unreal!! They sent two extra bulbs, spark plug, gaskets and extra plug for lines/vent/filter for fuel tank. I wasn’t sure where those two reddish colored plugs went so didn’t mess with them or the spark plug. (Didn’t know what to set the gap at so left the old one in) “Amazing Amazon” for $16 what they give you. Mostly old stuff in the picture including the old carb.
