I had a Enjoyable Short Talk with another Hunter in the Monroe Walmart this Morning in the Egg Section. Around Age 77,I would say. He had his Camo Shirt on with his Backtag.  So,I ask him if he is going out for the Fall Turkey Opener tomorrow.  Nope-- Just Bow Deer Hunting he tells me. He is keeping his Backtag going and visible because it is too easy for the new Hunting Licenses to get wet or Lost.

So I ask him - been seeing alot of Turkeys? He says yeah a Huge Flock.  So,I told him about my local flock of 13 Hens and 1 Gobbler. He told me that his Flock has nothing but Hens. Every one of them he told me. Same story from others ,I talk to in passing in Orange County these past few Months. An Abundance of Hens- not many Jakes or Gobblers.   Northern NJ - the Turkey Population  is slowly coming back.  Been Hunting in NJ since 1994.

Ok,I digress - anyway,I always enjoy these In Store Hunter Conversations.   I make the first move to get things going. This was more common with everyone  before the Internet.  I remember in the 1970s + 80s- the Pheasant  and Woodcock Hunters would have Breakfast or Coffee at the Monroe Diner before going field. Bird Dogs barking in their Vehicles. Very rare to see anyone with Camo or Orange Ambling into that Diner now. Empire Diner now. UNBELIEVABLE WRAPS!!

Come to think of it- most of those Hunters are Long Gone. I was 15 back in 1975. All those grizzled/Lean/Rawboned Hunters- just in my memory now. Now,I am the Older Redneck at age 65.  Hey,I wrote this before awhile back in another Thread- Back when,I was in my early 30s - one night at the Monthly Monroe-Chester Sportsmans Club Meeting and it was packed that Thursday Night- the President up in the front paused in his address and scanned the large room and exclaimed-- THE AVERAGE AGE OF EVERYONE HERE IS DEATH. I was among the Youngest there that night.

Hey speaking of the Monroe- Chester Sportsmans Club- Back on October 1st and driving back from Stewart,I passed the 750 Acre Preserve in Bloomingrove.  Not a car in the parking lot?!  Still have not seen anyone parked there and this is prime time. ??  Maybe a member here could shed some light on this.

Hey that's it. I sprayed up my Hunting Cloths with Permitheren  and hour ago and hopefully  tomorrow, I might have some Luck on Fall Turkey Opener.

Yup- Wary/Wily Hens are on the menu as well. Later.

you don't need to wear a backtag anymore... let alone in walmart buying eggs.

I hunt on an “ask permission” piece. Landowners says back tags are still required. No exceptions. This was after I got rid of my back tag holder🤣

If,I get a Turkey in the next 2 weeks,I always fill out my kill/Tag- put that in a Backtag and pin it right through the WingButt through the muscle and click it tight.  Always done it that way.

And Nothing on the back- nothing  seen as in a big ol Bird coming in from behind.
