Wolc123 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 No I’m not talking about jettesing New York City, like most of us would love to see. I would like separate hunting licenses and tags for the northern zone and the southern zone, both available at resident prices, for all NY state residents and all could buy both, if they wanted to. That would go a long way towards making up for our dwindling number of hunters, and it would provide a big tourism boost for the hard pressed areas up north. What’s in it for me, is that I wouldn’t have to be so damn selective, with my tags. I wouldn’t mind buying two NY state hunting licenses every year. Who else would go for this idea ?

I vote for county-wide buck tags. One buck per county limit. Edited October 24 by Lawdwaz LET EM GROW and G-man 2

Correct. Do you like the idea of the two seperate licenses ? Do you have any suggestions that would help make up for the declining number of hunters in NY state or for bringing more “out of area” money up north.

Franklin county was looking into creating a trail network to bring more side by side fans into the area. What a half baked plan that was/is. More unregulated and uninsured vehicles on the roads, some of them going through easement lands that don't allow atv's or side by sides. As if there aren't enough people driving them down any road they feel like. The county spent a good amount of money on the consulting firm already which a lot of townships are not happy about. I think we might as well accept that there aren't a ton of economic opportunities up north, that is just the way it is. As far as extra licenses,I think giving out more tags is not going to bring more people into the hunting community. We get plenty of tags imo.
mowin Posted October 25 Posted October 25 What a novel idea.. let me think about myself and how NY can benefit me. Screw everyone else.
9jNYstarkOH Posted October 25 Posted October 25 If someone is going to buy multiple licenses I believe most will hunt just hunt out of state.

The northern businesses are screwed now because so many residents are spending their money on out of state hunting. Im talking about unscrewing. I know you seem to prefer to look on the dark side, but there really is such a thing as a win win deal, and I think this would be an example of that. What is the downside ? Spoken like a true "out of towner". 😉 As a SxS owner/ driver we do need more trails. Unless you are on your own property all utv, atvs, etc.. need to be insured. Of course , like most activities, a few bad apples gives everybody a bad rap. Amazingly enough NY hasn't made a class for the SxSs over 1000lb(most of them) so cannot be registered. The law for the most part doesn't issue tickets for this. Bionic 1

As a northerner, what’s your opinion on my “separate license” idea ? Don’t you think it would bring a lot more spending up here by southern zone NYers who would otherwise spend that money at home or out of state ? I agree with you on the side by side stupidity in NY. They ought to be able to be registered here.
Splitear Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Let’s bring it down a bit fellas. mowin, Wolc123, grampy and 2 others 2 3

Imo, our hunting culture would need to change up here, allowing bucks to mature past 1 1/2 years old. This might bring in more hunters. I'm always amazed at the mature bucks I see downstate compared to here.

I think improving habitat with logging would be a lot more help than trying to protect 1.5 year bucks (I’m not just saying that because I’m after two of them up here right now). Mature forrest that has never been logged or hasn’t been in way too many years, does not support near the deer numbers, as does that which has been logged regularly.
