I purchased 2 boxes of hornady american whitetail for my .270 recently. They were available so thought I would see how they would do.

I went out today to see how they would shoot. Tried 4 bullets, and not one fired. You can see where the fire pin hit the primer. Thought maybe it was the gun but I had no issue with other brands before or after.  My go to bullet for that gun is Hornaday sst 140 grain, they perform well. I emailed Hornaday with a picture of the lot number. and waiting a response.

Interesting.  Post a pic of the primer strike.

The pin definitely hit the primer! That sucks. Let us know how Hornady handles this for ya.

I reload for my partner and my 27o's. Hornady 140gr SST. A devastating round on deer!

Somewhat related, couple weeks ago I shot my ML . Several 209 strikes that look normal but no firing , one hang fire then a one normal firing . Two fired out of idk 8 .

When I got home it looked like while I cleaned it before putting it away last year but I neglected the firing pin , spring and bushing . The pin had heavy build up on it, steel wool, and cleaner on the pin and a small round file in the hole, then lightly lubed it all .

It then fired several 209s in my basement, and next range session was fine . It seemed the build up was slowing the pin down I guess .

I took a photo at the range of one that didn’t go off .
