yfki1983 Posted November 6 Posted November 6 If this post is in the wrong place and someone has the ability to move it, feel free. I had scheduled off Friday after Halloween until Monday and was praying for good weather. Friday was a beach day and saw 0 movement. Saturday AM temps were around 40 degrees with around 13MPH swirling wind. I hunt the top of our ridge and the wind is usually more brutal up there. Right after first light I saw a deer as far off as I could see movement, about 100 yards. As I am trying to find it again in my binos I look and doe is walking straight towards me. She stopped at about 30 yards and was looking at me. I was not moving at all so not sure if she smelled me or if she was just skittish with the wind. She stated at me for a minute turned and walked away, she stopped when she got by the ridge and then took off running down it. As she did that, I hear a grunt and see a deer run from where I initially saw movement. I couldn't see what it was.. I thought the deer I was looking for in my binos was the doe that walked up. Rest of the day was quiet, I saw a small 5 pt walk by right before last light. Sunday morning was freezing. Frost on the ground. Thankfully there was no wind. At first light that 5 pt from night before strolled by and about an hour later a 4 pt passed and he was cruising. Gave me some hope. Finally around 9, I hear movement behind me, look in my binos and see a doe. I see another deer but couldnt see its head. Then it ran towards the first deer, and that's when I realized it was a buck. I couldn't tell if it was legal yet and just prayed she would walk my way. Finally she starts walking towards me and he follows. I grab my bow. She gets about 5 yards from my stand and looks up at me. I was standing with my bow in my hand frozen for what felt like an hour but was probably 30 seconds. She keeps walking and was basically touching my ladder, i couldn't even see her with the stand skirt blocking. I just needed her to stay there. Now I could see that the buck was big but knew I had to hurry up. He circled around towards her at around 15 yards. He looked at me when I was about to draw so I had to freeze again for a minute but finally kept walking and I drew when he passed the next tree. Once he cleared it he stopped and I released. Clean pass through, double lung. Ran 70 yards and toppled over in sight. I was sure it was bigger than a 6 but I'm still happy. I've never killed a nice looking 6 pt or even seen one on our property this big. Great year so far!! 5th deer the last few years with kudupoint plus broadheads and all have been similar. No blood trail for about 20 yards, then little drops and then it starts to pour out. But they've all went down and died in their first bed. I wonder if it's just high lung shots that need to fill blood internal before spilling out. Not sure Someone asked in Live feed about the inside spread. It is a little more than 16". No giant but a giant to me! Had to be 200 plus lbs. Wish I was good at aging but not sure. Frontal pics don't really do him justice. GreeneHunter, Wolc123, Rob-c and 19 others 22
