Lawdwaz Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Had a somewhat disappointing thing happen with my broadhead on Friday. The Rage certainly did the job and passed through (actually fell out after 25-30 yards?) but I was surprised to see pieces broken off. Wondering where they ended up?? As far as I know they are NOT knock off Rage.. 2BuckBizCT 1
Fab Posted November 10 Posted November 10 I had several not open. I stopped using them To be fair i don’t get the whole kenetic energy thing. I might have been using to light of energy. I have always had complete pass threws with fixed blades. I was using a 49 lbs compound with a 28.5 in 500 weight bemon carbon arrow. But still. The hair stopped the shots. Like a big giant pin cushion. I did find 2 of the deer. I only got 4 maybe 5 inches of penetration and the shots were perfect double lung hits so the deer Didn’t go far, i saw both fall but no blood trails. The others Very little blood Found a broken shaft and a pulled out shaft Same 4 inches or so penetrate lots of ppl use them fine. I won’t anymore. Fixed blade wasp for me no grampy 1
Moog5050 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Wow. That’s not the norm. Ribs! dbHunterNY and cervidchasers 2

mowin Posted November 10 Posted November 10 I've shot a dozen or more deer with rage heads. Had a few that blades broke off, but always had passthroughs shooting 42 lbs. Switched to swhackers a few yrs back because I just couldn't find the rage in stock locally. I'm strictly xbow now and stuck with swhackers. cervidchasers 1
BowmanMike Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Thin blades and a very low cutting angle are not a good combination. I prefer a dead deer in under 50 over a great blood trail. And @Fab,I think you were too light on # and drawlength to push a mechanical through a deer. Even with perfect shot placement, they do require so much more energy than a steep angled head.

BowmanMike Posted November 10 Posted November 10 42# is well outside the recommend minimum poundage. See Fabs post.

Ok,look up recommended poundage for mechanical heads then. Your experience is anecdotal and doesn't change the basics of 30% angled blade having to push much harder than a 70% angle blade. As I said, your experience is not the norm. Doesn't mean you are wrong.

Lawdwaz Posted November 10 Author Posted November 10 OK, knock off the BS…. For the record, the blades weren’t “locked” in that position when I found the shaft. Not sure if that’s an indication of them not opening fully? I’m ignorant of these failures…… cervidchasers 1
