Versatile Hunter Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I've been sharpening my knives with a whetstone but I'm not satisfied with my ability to keep a steady angle. I'd like to purchase a sharpening system that is good for knives and broadheads (currently using Iron Will single bevel). Any recommendation or tips would appreciated. The Iron Will website suggests KME, Gatco, or Lansky kits. Does anybody have experience with these?
Belo Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I have a staysharp that I used for rage heads but if i'm honest I'm not sure it's worth the time for a little sharper than factory. Probably for the more expensive fixed heads Versatile Hunter and cervidchasers 1 1 "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12
biggamefish Posted November 21 Posted November 21 (edited) Check out the Rada Sharpener. It is cheap and super easy to use. I was skeptical about it but I finally broke down to sharpen by simmons broadheads as a quick fix to hand sharpening. It works amazing and I was very surprised at how well it worked. Within 5 minutes they were shaving sharp. I have also used it on my pocket knife. Works super good. Rereading you original post, the rada is for a double bevel might not work. Caeden4 Posted November 21 Posted November 21 i use whetstones too, and i always have the same concern.. especially since im getting arthritis in my hands and i know that after holding whatever i am sharpening long enough there is no way im keeping the blade 100% steady at the right angle. i saw THP did a really detailed video on the Worksharp Precision Adjust Sharpener a couple months back and its expensive but not terrible.. it basically takes the human element out of maintaining the angle, but still using the same sort of process that i personally enjoy (also get a kick out of how much my wife despises the sound haha). ive been using all my restraint not to buy the unit the last couple months, but its only a matter of time... i can give you a personal report when i inevitably buy it video below, although there are a ton of them on youtube generally. Mattypotpie8s Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I use a lansky for knives & like it. If your bevel angle is the same as one of the slots I’d imagine it would work good. Versatile Hunter 1
escpen Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I have the KME and like it a lot - works very well for my needs (KME Precision Knife Sharpener) I've tried the Stay Sharp guide on my fixed blade broadheads but preferred the results with the KME. That said, I don't think the KME would work too well on replaceable blade broadheads. I picked up the Work Sharp jig in Caeden's post as a gift for my dad - looks a lot like the KME but seems to have some nice features that set it apart. I won't be able to report back on how well that one works until after Xmas. Versatile Hunter 1

I think there are other jigs that will get the job done for much cheaper. I love my worksharp for knife sharpening though. Versatile Hunter Posted November 30 Author Posted November 30 Any opinions on the "professional" upgrade for the Worksharp sharpener?

I've been using jigs for a couple years on Magnus stingers, not a huge fan. I went with the worksharp + single bevels this year and it makes it easy peasy. That head I buried in the dirt with this year was resharpened and good to go in 30 minutes. Versatile Hunter, Caeden4 and grampy 3

Versatile Hunter Posted Thursday at 05:00 PM Author Posted Thursday at 05:00 PM I went with Elite too. The pro seems sturdier and comes with an additional small blade clamp that may be useful for bleeder blades but I didn't think it was worth the markup.
