Ncountry Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Talk in the live from the woods thread made me think. What is everyone's favorite time in the woods. I think mine is probably the 1st few hrs of hunting in the morning. Followed closely by 9-12. The late morning seems pretty productive during the rut. I had 1 season in Letchworth that I saw 18 separate bucks. Not a single one before 9:30 in the morning. My 1st 10-15 years of hunting, I'd have never seen a buck . I always was headed out around 9-9:30. Now I will normaly sit from dark until noon. Take a break and head back out in the afternoon. I've never gotten into the early afternoon hunts . Maybe I'm missing out. Seems like most times that I sit all day I never see anything all afternoon until that last hour.
GreeneHunter Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I love being in the woods just before sun up and sitting in my ladder stand until about 8 or 830 , then I go for a walk around my property and try and drive whatever to either my son or hunting buddy ! We've done the same thing for years now and it usually produces well ! Ncountry 1
Trial153 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 changes for me based on the date and location. But generally.... Sept 1 to oct 15 afternoons the last two ours before sunset, even the last hour and half is enough. oct 15-nov 25 The first three hours of the day by far. After about thanks giving then I am back on food sources and my morning hunts almost stop...expect on one farm. After Nov 25....Lats three hours of light for sure over food. 2BuckBizCT Posted November 25 Posted November 25 530am - 830am. or I guess 6am - 9am as the sun rises later. I don't have a good PM spot, but I still hunt PM's just to be in the woods. Ncountry 1
Robhuntandfish Posted November 25 Posted November 25 bow season the last 3 hours before dark. Opening day of gun and thru 2 weeks the first 3 hours in the morn, then back to the last three thru the end of gun and muzzle. Belo Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Mornings for bow. 6:30 to 9:30 and it's not even close. Evenings for gun because I don't like gun season and I'd rather sleep in but it's probably 3/3:30 to dark so not even a full 3 hours. Bionic Posted November 25 Posted November 25 8am-11am is when most of my sightings occur. My biggest 3 bucks taken were all 10:30am-10:45am. Afternoon are extremely hit, or miss. Ncountry 1
NYRturkeycall Posted November 25 Posted November 25 An hour before sunrise until about 9:00 or 10:00 am. Although I absolutely despise waking up early, once I'm in my truck with nobody else on the road and settled into my stand, I find it one of the more peaceful opportunities I have in life. I honestly don't do anything but listen for sounds and enjoy what's around me in those moments; The cold snaps, the warmth, depending on what time of fall. One of those few fleeting moments of pure blissful silence, both mentally and physically. I do enjoy the evening sits, but the thought of tracking in the dark and then having to drag and come home and quarter and store in ice chest brings out the laziness in me. I'll do it. I just get lazy about it. nywaw and GreeneHunter 1 1 Palma non sine pulvere
nywaw Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I'm not a morning person at all (in terms of waking up), but I love the mornings in the treestand watching the sun come up and the woods come alive. That's MY favorite time to be there, but I like any time in the woods. Regarding the best times to hunt, that all depends on the time of year and the patterns of the deer. Will C Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I like the first 3 hours of the day. As far as success, the first 2 hours and the last hour are the best time for me. I don’t like the last hour-don’t like finding deer after dark, and then taking care of one after a long day of hunting. Belo and NYRturkeycall 2

fletchny11 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Early season when it is warm I have very good luck the last hour of the day. It seems the deer can't wait to get up when the temp starts going down a bit. Mid season my most productive time is about a half hour after light for the next hour or two. During late season when it is very cold I see more movement more middle of the day and afternoons. Rut and big fronts though can make anytime good. High wind and downpours can make anytime terrible.
The_Real_TCIII Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Depends on time of season but it's the first three hours or the last three. Early season I like the morning, late I see more deer in the evenings. I suspect I am not alone in this. Nomad and Wolc123 2
dbHunterNY Posted November 26 Posted November 26 late october through november any time i can get out. even if for a half an hour. i need to be able to get into a spot cleanly and not thrash around to get there. most encounters I have are well under a half hr. all it takes is minutes most of the time.
