grampy Posted November 29 Posted November 29 (edited) I want to pick up some Blackhorn 209 powder ASAP. Can it be shipped to NYS? Is it even available? Can it be found in gun stores? Also same thing with 209 primers? Can any brand primers be used with the Blackhorn powder? Are they hard to find now too? Been a long time since I've hunted with a front stuffer. And recently picked up a newer gun. So I think I will go late season. And possibly the holiday hunt. Thanks for any helpful info you may have! Edited November 29 by grampy

As you know, I'm in the same boat as you are. I should have enough for this season if everything goes as planned, but I definitely need a jug, and a sleeve of primers. grampy 1

Don't use muzzleloader primers with blackhorn . Use a shot primer. Versatile Hunter, mowin, ATbuckhunter and 2 others 3 1 1

It can be shipped, but it'll have a hazmat fee. When I drove to Wyoming I stopped at Brownells and they had a bunch of jugs. I picked up an extra one, but it was expensive (80 bucks). I would look to see if they have it or Scheels has it. Both tend to have it when no one else does. Its hard to get a hold of. You want to use standard or magnum 209 primers. I use CCI primers, but I can't seem to find those anywhere. If you can use regular 777 pellets this year, I can try to pick some up for you when I drive out west next year, or FL in the spring. grampy 1

Not sure when you need it, but I know that have it at both the cabelas and bass pro in CT. If I'm passing through there in the next week..... not sure I am. Ill grab you a jug and one for mowin too grampy and mowin 2
Will C Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I found it at a small gun store and paid 80 for 8 ounces. Hated to do that but it works so well and my last jug lasted me 5 years. Their instructions are for full stength 209 primers, not the reduced MZ primers. Good luck. grampy 1

Runnings is a option also and a little closer than Cabela's. I'll call Monday morning as that would be the first chance I could make the trip. grampy 1

You can call the Utica Bass Pro and ask but it's unlikely they stock it. They didn't have any a month ago when I was there. And, fwiw, my experiences at that store have been abysmal. I've had decent success there ordering powder online and having it shipped to the store (saves the hazmat fee), but the walkup service at the gun counter is horrendous. If I'm not mistaken Mayhood's in Oxford, NY has it in stock along with a nice selection of primers. Local shop with premium prices but they're having a 10% sale till Sunday so that helps. I'd call them first to verify. 🤙 Edited November 29 by Enigma grampy 1

Enigma Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Just offering up options that's all. PM me if you're in real need. I'm only 30 min away from them and free this weekend to travel. Help you out if I could. It'd give me a reason to go get more duck ammo. 😁 5 hours ago, mowin said: Oxford is a hike for me, almost 2.5 hrs each way. grampy 1
