I have 4 rules to my hunting

1 hunt safe

2 have fun. when it's not fun anymore it's time to hang it up

3 I won't shoot anything on the last day that I wouldn't shoot on the first day

4 I'm going to shake your hand weather you kill the next world record or a button buck as long as you're happy I'm happy for you. It's none of my business what you shoot as long as you did everything right.

Every hunter should have their own expectations and goals. We came out of the house after having lunch the first day of rifle season this year. There was a doe 150 yards from the house. The 4 of us just smiled and watched it. 30 years one of us would have shot it. Perfectly legal but we had no desire.

I came out of the woods last week 4 does in the field two big does the one I would of shot was at 237yds it's a definitely do able shot. I chose not to shoot. I already have two in the box but there was a time where I would of killed it. The main reason I didn't shoot I don't need another deer and I would of stopped deer hunting for the year and I'm not done yet.

I agree...shoot what you like, like what you shoot. As long as you're not reckless and take the most efficient and ethical shot that you believe (at the time you take it) you have to kill the animal It's all good.

Counter for Monday funs.

If you're an experienced hunter and you have the time and resources to hunt and the season has just started or is far from over, stop shooting little deer, jakes and hens.

It's completely illogical to think that a 80 pound bb, 105 pound spike or hen is worth taking if you're meat hunting. We've all shot enough deer and turkey to know that the yield just isn't there to say it's "for the meat". If you're happy with a 1.5 buck or doe I wont fault you at all, I've taken plenty in my life including one not that long ago because I was running out of season and we needed meat. The crunch, crunch that was coming was going to die if it wasn't a bb or doe fawn, and I was hoping it was a doe. It was a small 4 and it took an arrow and I was ecstatic.

But again I'll reiterate because some of you have selective reading. IF YOU HAVE TIME and THE RESOURCES, pass the small guys. You're just diminishing next year's hunt and you don't even know it. And don't get me started on hens.
