What Xmas Trees to Plant?

What kind of Xmas Trees should I buy to plant? Looks like Douglas Fir is the right species? Any websites anyone suggests and timing of planting? My thought it to plant maybe 10 or 12 of them that are say 1-2ft. I'll be planting them in hardwoods in random spots on my property. Then each year around this time, she can cut one down and we can put it on our outdoor front porch to decorate. Thanks!

Concolor would be my first choice.  But if planted under an existing canopy, figure a solid 25 years before it's ready for Christmas.  Christmas trees are planted in farm fields for a reason, they grow much faster under direct sun.  Also, bucks will tear them up if not caged, so take that into consideration as well.

We've got a covered porch, so I bought a nice artificial with lights a few years ago on a after Xmas sale for cheap money.  It's so nice and easy.  Can't see our house from the road, so it's just for our viewing pleasure.

I'm partial to Canaans because they are more fragrant. Doug firs are my second choice when I can't find a good Canaan.

I'm not looking to grow them to 8-10'. Moreso, just a small one my daughter can cut down each year and put on the porch.

any fir is good but i wouldn't know. if it's not hard ass prickly SOB of a spruce it doesn't survive the deer around here.

Madison County does a spring sale where you can buy bundles of trees. You have to go pick them up though so not sure if that would work for you.

This is last year. The email was sent early January. They have Christmas Trees to plant for cheap. I like Colorado blue Spruce.

Do you grow them? To protect them what would you do? 

The deer definitely eat mine at high as they can get.

Fencing .. kill as many deer as you can.  Or plant spruce..   not as favored for food
