I found out yesterday that I've been tapped to go to the SHOT Show next month on behalf of 4-H Shooting Sports. The goal is to network and find products and partners that can help advance our youth shooting sports program in NYS. I have not been before, but will be attending with another representative from our program.

Has anyone been before? Anyone I should speak with, booths I should visit or tips to the overall experience. I'll be there from Media Day through the following Friday, so the full time. I plan on reporting the trip back to the forum as well.

Wow, that's exciting.  Congrats.  Look forward to that thread.

I went years ago, it's sort of information and sensory overload. It's also disappointing in a way, I suppose as is any similar event, there's so much you're missing because there's just so many people there, a sea of humanity and all in the way.  Think we spent two days at the show, still didn't really see it all. You need to have a plan or follow a pattern.

ETA:  Reading what I wrote reminded me. It was 2012, right after the Safe Act passed. So it was like waking up Christmas morning and finding out there was no Santa.  Looking at all those things there were legal a week or two before, but now would never happen.

I'm going to be "on a mission" so I'm coming up with folks that I certainly want to speak with. The goal is to keep my colleauge moving (he is a talker) and hit all of the spots that we need to. We'll be there for the week, so we have some time, but a plan still needs to be in place.

I was also able to secure a press pass on behalf of NYW&W and our NYS 4-H Shooting Sports program, so I will be able to report back from Range Day (how exciting). I plan on doing written and video reports from the show for the forum and our 4-H page.

Just seeing this now....   While I had a small firearms related business at the time, I went representing a very large, "brand related" forum.  Two things disappointed me, one being that my travel plans changed last minute. So by the time we got there all the "new product related news" was old news at that point. There wasn't really anything related to the website for me to do. I didn't really care, less to worry about,  but that was sort of the point of me going "for" the website.

The other was when my buddy and I signed in, he did so on his business. When I went after him they pointed me to another person so go see. There they gave me my "press credentials" that I had no idea I was getting. (which really was just my tag looked a little different. Also meant getting in was free, which I didn't know. So I spent what I was going to spend on a NSSF "press" membership(?))   Later it hit us... "Wait, does this mean we could have gone to the range demo day? Shit! If only we'd known!" (dunno if we could have or not, of course it was too late to matter)

The range day is a separate piece, you need to be invited by an exhibitor. Fortunately we know someone who was able to send an invite, so we’ll be off to the range :)

We leave early Sunday. I plan on doing a daily recap for here and our 4-H page.  I’ll try to get good photos and video. If anyone wants to see anything specific just let me know and I’ll do my best to get to it.

They will be at the Industry Range Day, so I'm hopeful I'll be able to shoot whatever the surprise is.
