mowin Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Mine, mom and dad left us 4 kids alone for a few hrs a few days before Xmas, and we opened up every present carefully, and re wrapped them. Come Xmas morning, we had to act surprised. Ruined it for me. Never snooped since. Next, I was in the hospital since October 8th at 12 yrs old when I got hit by a car. Thought I was going to spend Christmas in the hospital, when the docs discharged me on the 24th. Didn't give a shit what was under the tree. Being home with our dog on my lap was good enough. Robhuntandfish Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) When I was a kid we had a camp on Chase lake. It was a tiny little cabin and my uncle had one right next to it about 100 yards. My aunt had MS and was paralyzed from the neck down and she loved to come to camp and play poker. One winter just before Xmas she said how she missed camp. Well my uncle said let's go! So we all traveled up to camp and this was in lewis county back when we always had snow. Got there and the whole road was blocked off to get to camp with about 3ft of snow. So we used a sled and got her in there and all our gear Including water jugs cause that was shut off. My Dad got a Xmas tree and we all spent the weekend there and he cooked up a feast as he was a chef for many years and just went to town. It was like an old time Xmas with the wood stoves going in the camps and one i sure won't forget. I'll never forget the sight of my uncles yellow VW camper with a Xmas tree on top and my Aunt on a sled going into camp. Jeremy K Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Im not sure i have one specific memory . For me it was the feeling before Christmas as a kid ,it all seemed larger then life to me,going to the mall with all the people and decorations and seeing Santa. Now watching my kids experience it has been fun . mowin, Red, Lawdwaz and 4 others 7
Lawdwaz Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) When I was very young, 10-12 yo maybe my father got a used lemon wood longbow from his good friend. It hadn’t been strung in years….. When I looked under the tree that Christmas morning I couldn’t believe it. I was overjoyed! Well I strung it up, drew it back and it promptly snapped in two…….I went from the highest of high to the lowest of lows in seconds. Good and bad memory all in one. 😂 edit….thinking about it I bet I was 8-10 years old? Edited December 7, 2024 by Lawdwaz Moog5050, Red, mowin and 1 other 4

grampy Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 December of 67, we were living in a four room hunting camp my mom bought with a small inheritance. She was a single mom with six kids, I was the oldest. We had very little then. I shoveled snow for the elderly neighbors, and gave the money to mom, to buy small gifts from Santa for my brother's and sister. And mom knitted us all mittens and a scarf. We all got some candy too. But, looking back, that was my best Christmas ever. We had nothing. But we had each other. And the warmth from that little cabin, that came from our hearts, always stayed with me. Larry Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 The best was when both my sons were old enough to enjoy Christmas. The worst was when my dad passed away 3 days before Christmas. mowin and grampy 2
Wolc123 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) I’m going with 2022. We were just hit with a second blizzard that year, which dumped about 4 ft of snow and shut down all of the roads in the county. All of my other 57 Christmases had included lots of driving around and visiting extended family and friends. That one, we (my wife and two daughters) got to stay home and relax for a few days. I’ll never forget how nice it was in front of the wood stove and frying up some fresh venison liver for lunch (wife made something else for the girls). After the presents were opened, the girls went outside for some drift diving on the deck, and I worked on digging out the driveways (ours and our neighbors) with my tractor. The starter on my tractor was just about worn out back then, and it needed some extra amps to crank. Most of our vehicles were trapped in the barn but luckily our oldest daughters car was outside and not far from the tractor. It had a brand new battery in it. It took me about an hour to shovel from it to my tractor, and hook up the cables. It took about 2 hours to clear the driveways with the tractor. 2BuckBizCT Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 As a kid we went to midnight mass and came home to open 1 present Xmas Eve. My brother and I would tear little holes in all the presents weeks prior, so we knew the best one to pick Xmas eve night. Favorite gift I can remember was a BMX bicycle. It was gold and black. It was in front of the tree when I ran out into living room Xmas morning. least favorite was all the years we had to watch nba on Xmas because no football games. Now we get NFL at least. Go Chiefs! 2 years in a row on Xmas mowin and grampy 2
biggamefish Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 I can say I disliked Christmas for alot of years. We were always running around from one house to the other starting Christmas eve. We where always on a schedule. Now since about 10 years ago when my daughter was born and now my son also, we stay home and enjoy with family. I enjoy it again watching my kids get into the Christmas spirit and seeing their excitement. mowin, corydd7, grampy and 2 others 5
Moog5050 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Just a rant. Why does my flocking wife have to buy several trees with flocking. As I put them up today that darn sticky fake snow is all over everything. Hate it. MERRY CHRISTMAS. LOL mowin, corydd7, NYRturkeycall and 2 others 5

LOL I’m not sure what “tree flocking” is and I probably don’t want to know. 😂 On a similar note, I despise greeting cards with that damn sparkly crap on them. 🤬 It gets everywhere including in your eyes if you’re not careful.
