Joe T Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) I am planning a hunt at Southaven park this weekend in a blind and the weather is supposed to be in teens with a steady wind. Perfect duck weather but concerned about my lab. Many of the blinds require walking the river to get to them so he will start out wet. He will be wearing a Momarsh vest and I will have buddy heater and a blanket. Can anyone offer advice on how cold is too cold? I will be with two other guys and we are only hunting a couple of hours so I could cycle him in the truck every 45 min or so. Any advice? Edited December 17, 2024 by Joe T Add image
CharlieNY Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Joe this link will provide some good advice for you. In addition go to your local Walmart or similar store and buy some inexpensive large bath towels. Whenever your dog gets wet and returns to the blind be sure to towel your dog dry. Also be careful not to let your dog sit close to the buddy heater as your dog can get severe burns from the heater. Keeping your dog in the blind and out of the water and wind will greatly help. Good luck. https://www.cornerstonegundogacademy.com/blog/prepare-your-retriever-how-cold-is-too-cold-for-dogs Joe T and cervidchasers 1 1
