RocNy Sporter Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I have a M77 in 270. Owned it for many years and love it. The gun has an internal magazine. The only word of caution I will give you is this - when you load or unload; i.e., chamber/unchamber a round, the safety needs to be off. At this point you need to be aware of where the gun is aimed and where your fingers are. If you touch the trigger as you are loading, the gun will fire. Also, to release the firing pin after unloading - depress the trigger as you move the bolt forward. Again, making sure you're aimed away from anything, and you see the chamber is empty. PS This is my first post. I have been following this site for quite a long time and saw your post. Felt it important to sign up and tell you this. Good luck with your purchase. mowin, Bolt Action, Ncountry and 5 others 7 1

mowin Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Just now, grampy said: Great information! Thank you! Hope to see more from you. I didn't realize the M77 needs the safety off to cycle the bolt. I have two M77 m II. Those have a 3 position safety, and you can cycle the bolt on the second position which is on safe. grampy 1
Buckmaster7600 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Heavier than I like especially with wood. Some have awful triggers and some are great. A competent gun smith can fix the bad ones. The older models have a 2 position tang safety similar to a tikka, the newer ones have a 3 position safety. The tang safety models are a little more sought after. RocNy Sporter 1

Also, a gunsmith worked the trigger, and it's great now, very crisp. As with any firearm, paying attention is very important, especially so when you have a gun that needs the safety off to cycle the bolt. mowin 1

My m II have great triggers. 270 is a little heavy even with the skeleton stock. My .22 mag skeleton stock is a well balanced rifle. Edited December 17, 2024 by mowin
RocNy Sporter Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 One final post on the older Model 77. It's important that the screws that hold the barrel in place (around the action/magazine) are tightened properly or not over tightened. There are articles by experts which instruct how to do this properly, so as to not negatively affect accuracy. Good luck with your purchase. mowin and LET EM GROW 2
Lawdwaz Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Red recoil pad and tang (sliding) safety for the win. RocNy Sporter 1
