Robhuntandfish Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I have heard people say they don't like the recoil on this or that gun/load etc. Is it me that I never notice any recoil when hunting? from birds to deer I feel zero recoil that I even notice. At the range I get it but while hunting in the moment I dont ever think about or notice it. And I tote a .450 for deer and like to duck hunt. grampy Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Back when I hunted deer with a 12g I never noticed the recoil when hunting. But range time I certainly did! Bolt Action, Robhuntandfish, mlamm24 and 2 others 1 4
GreeneHunter Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I've never noticed Recoil while shooting at Deer , but like @grampysaid at the range yes ! Robhuntandfish 1
Ncountry Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Yeah , what they said.. At the range but never when shooting a deer. My 300 win mag kicks , but it's not ridiculous. I still don't enjoy shooting it at a target though. I love shooting deer with it. Robhuntandfish 1
Robhuntandfish Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 Maybe if I was shooting 3.5 inch goose loads I might notice it. But never have since I started hunting at 16 with any guns I've had. sbuff 1 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson
Moho81 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Same. On game never. Small game big game it never mattered. I use to shoot 12ga with slugs now I hunt with a 30-06 both absolutely suck on the range for more than a couple of shots but hunting it’s like “oh the gun went off” cervidchasers 1
Bolt Action Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Agreed. Never notice it when hunting.. wait.. shot magnum turkey loads years ago out of a mossberg 500.. that kicked like a grumpy mule.. but that's the only time I recall recoil while hunting. Unfortunately I do notice at the range, and that's where the flinch is developed. Bucksnbows and Stubborn1vt 1 1
2BuckBizCT Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 range yes if in a t shirt and shooting a weatherby magnum or shotgun in summer. Hunting = never
cervidchasers Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Its amazing what adrenaline will do When shooting a deer/turkey/goose. Dont even feel the recoil or the ears dont even ring if I forget to wear my ear plugs. Like everyone said, range time is when recoil in anticipated so its felt. mowin and Robhuntandfish 2
Splitear Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I can shoot trap for 4 straight hours and never feel it until the next day. mowin and cervidchasers 1 1

Good point..I don't hear the noise either. It just always makes me tilt my head when I read something somewhere that says how they felt the recoil or are bothered by recoil when hunting. Once sighted in really shouldn't be an issue after. Use a lead sled and ear muffs and it shouldn't really ever be an issue. cervidchasers 1 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson
Buckmaster7600 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I shoot a ton and I’m a bit recoil sensitive. Never while hunting but bad habits don’t come from hunting. After a gun is sighted in other than confirming zeros my guns never see the lead sled or bench, all my practice is free hand. grampy 1

Spaceman Spiff Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 3.5s out of a Stoeger pump with a pistol grip stock. Brutal. cervidchasers 1
