I'm  new to pistols. I've shot plenty of them over the years but never owned any. Now that I have my permit I plan on acquiring a few. I already bought a taurus tx22 to play with and carry when I go on hikes or scouting to shoot the occasional grouse etc..

Now for deer hunting.

my FIL has a contender with 1/2 dozen different barrels that he never uses as well as a few revolvers. If I were going to hunt with that type I would just add them to my permit for now and borrow.

I had my mind made up on either a springfield xdm or the s&w mp2 with a reflex optic on it.

The other day I see a slightly used springfield 1911  operator for sale.

Now I'm torn. Lol.

The operator would cost me $400 more than the other guns with a sight on it . But, it has a 6" barrel vs the 4.5"on the others.

I'm most likely only going to carry when I'm rifle or ml hunting and use it if presented with a close shot. Maybe I would take it west on my elk hunts for protection.(most likely not though, due to the foolish laws)

Anybody have any experience with these?

The 6 inch barrel will be better suited to hunting situations , but a little bit heavier to carry. If you can handle both see what one tends to feel better in your hand .
As for carrying out west , theres quite a few states that honor our NY permit . If you want to pick up a few more states get a Utah permit . Check out https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/   And you can check what states you can carry in .
