Redneck4Life Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I'm trying to change the spark plugs on my 2011 toyota tacoma. Had a plug 6 misfire on code machine. After vehicles check engine light was flashing and vehicle shaking like crazy. So I set out to change them today. First one everything went fine until I lost coil bolt in engine. I finally found it and off to start second one. All coil bolts got doused in wd40 prior to job. I can't seem to get the coil bolts loose it's like there seized. Anyone know any pro tips or can help me figure this out. After all this I'm changing out all the bolts. 10mm ratchet not working. 10mm screwdriver head not working. Tapped with hammer very lightly nope. I just sprayed again with wd40. Hopefully it's not stripped. I have all tools for this job. Just not ones if something goes wrong. I'm going to get some vice grips and try that. Then a punch and tap that. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Should have just spent money at shop but wanted a sense of accomplishment
nygrandpa Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Might want to use penetrating oil. WD-40 isn't a penetrating oil. PB blaster or something similar will work much better mlamm24, Redneck4Life and cervidchasers 2 1
mowin Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Maybe a little heat around the bolt to expand the hole so the penetrating oil will seep in. Probably a few heat and cooling cycles needed. If you get one to break free and it's not backing out easily, tighten it slightly and repeat as needed. The Back 40 and Redneck4Life 2
Larry Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Try liquid heat let set over night then try again maybe with a breaker bar Redneck4Life 1
maddie Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Kroil oil can be your friend and a 6 point socket Redneck4Life and cervidchasers 1 1
Doebuck1234 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I'll 2nd pb blaster and heat.it may be a pain in the ass with heat as it's a plastic coil(I assume).I'll 2nd 6 point socket aswell,12pt are horrible!

I was thinking hitting it with my propane torch but was worried about plastic on coil where wires click in
Redneck4Life Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Thanks for advice guys. I'll have to have someone get me the stuff can't drive anywhere. Maybe parts store will deliver

Buckmaster7600 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Auto transmission fluid and acetone in a 50-50 mixture put in a small string “I use the one that baby Tylenol comes in.” Stuff is magic and you probably have it on hand. cervidchasers and Redneck4Life 1 1
Jeremy K Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Im not familiar with how the coils are mounted on that vehicle . Is grinding the head off the bolt an option? I've done it a few times on other hardware, then you have alot more meat exposed for trying some kroil and vice grips. Redneck4Life 1

He said that was option if I don't figure something out by then. I'm gonna putter and try different things tomorrow. mowin 1
