Buckmaster7600 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 This is my 4th year camping on the ice and it’s becoming my favorite hobby. I’ve gotten my gear pretty well dialed. Insulated shanty, Chinese diesel heater, nice cot and a good sleeping bag. Everything I need for a night fits in a sled that’s easily pulled without a machine. Most of my spots are over an hour away so it’s nice to be able to fish, enjoy a relaxing night while fishing and be ready for the first light bite. Heading north for a walleye trip in a few minutes, first over night trip of the year. Doebuck1234, LET EM GROW, 2BuckBizCT and 20 others 21 2

He’s gone now, old picture but he loved it! fishings been awesome hopefully the same where we’re heading today. the floor makes a big difference and I use a insulated sleeping pad under my bag. I usually don’t zip my zero degree bag because I’d over heat. dbHunterNY, Lawdwaz and grampy 2 1
2BuckBizCT Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Can you leave a line in the water during the night with a bell or something to wake you if you're sleeping?
Jeremy K Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Guy i work with has a similar set up ,he has bunk beds that him and his son use . He bought one of those track vehicles for yanking all his stuff on to the ice for the weekend. I've never been ice fishing,I just don't see it fun long enough to go through all that set up. That looks like the ideal set up though for exactly what you wanna do.

In the shanty at night, yes. If you have tip ups out, you need to check them often if dark. During the day you need to be within sight of your tip ups.

You should see some of the shanty's. They are in better condition with more amenities than their house. Bucksnbows and dbHunterNY 2
2BuckBizCT Posted January 9 Posted January 9 When I was in Minnesota and parts of Canada for hunting trips in winters the villages on ice are insane. Tons of trucks, houses, etc. IIRC the ice was 30-35" thick. Bucksnbows and mowin 2
Redneck4Life Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Where you headed up north? I'm in Clinton county. But franklin county has a couple good walleye ponds. Union falls and franklin falls. Also northerns and panfish. Edited January 9 by Redneck4Life

I leave tip ups in all night as well as rattle reels in the tent. Hole covers with insulated tip ups keeps the freezing to a minimum. Stubborn1vt 1
