Swamp_bucks Posted January 9 Posted January 9 My youngest daughter is looking to possibly hunt next year. I hear these 2 rounds don’t have a bunch of recoil. Little selfish but if she doesn’t end up wanting to go I still end up having a gun I would want to use. which ones would you choose for a youth hunter and better performance. Looking at bolt actions, mainly the CVA and Ruger. Redneck4Life 1
escpen Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I don't have any experience with the 450 bushmaster, but my then 12 year old was very recoil sensitive. He really enjoys shooting a Winchester XPR bolt gun in 350 Legend and has had good success over the past couple of years. He plinks metal at 200 yards without any trouble (longest target at the range we have access to). Bucksnbows, Swamp_bucks and cervidchasers 3
cervidchasers Posted January 9 Posted January 9 450bm will definitely have more recoil vs 350legend and for deer under 150yd for newbie 350l is the way to go. escpen, Bucksnbows and Swamp_bucks 2 1
sbuff Posted January 9 Posted January 9 It seems everyone sells 350 legend ammo these days ,just for that reason alone I would choose it over the 450 BM. I myself hope to get a cva scout v2 in 350 legend Swamp_bucks and Larry 2

Robhuntandfish Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I have the .450 BM Ruger ranch. I love the gun it's my go to swamp rifle. That being said for a youth I would go with the .350. The 450 doesn't kick bad but the .350 would prob be more comfortable. cervidchasers 1 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson

I’ve held a couple and they are short and compact. Robhuntandfish 1
mowin Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Best bet, get both. Gonna outgrow the 350, and can step into the 450. Your welcome. cervidchasers, Wolc123 and dbHunterNY 2 1
nygrandpa Posted January 10 Posted January 10 My buddy just picked up a Ruger American in.350 yesterday. Got the gray splatter stock, absolutely beautiful gun but have no idea how good it shoots yet. My Savage Axis 2 in .350 shoots awesome and it doesn't kick as much as my Axis in .243. I've taken 3 deer with it now and at 100-150 yards it hammers them mowin, Robhuntandfish and cervidchasers 3

nygrandpa Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Not saying anything. Just my opinion. Both relatively cheaper options that might be something you'd like
Larry Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Just like was said earlier go with the 350 just on ammo availability as for buying both I wouldn't. I would go with a round based on or similar to a 308. With most deer in NY being killed at less than 100yds it will be longtime before sometime bigger would be needed.

nygrandpa Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I'm sorry thought it was obvious that I was recommending a look at the Ruger or the Savage. Would never say that another person should buy any particular one. Just both of those are worth a look Robhuntandfish and cervidchasers 2
