NYRturkeycall Posted February 4 Posted February 4 https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFeZ-9kCNUX/?igsh=YTRuNWs3MnJpMHI1 Saw this and thought it was interesting. I'm going to do a little bit more reading into this thought process. I mean, I guess in theory it's similar to saving tarsal glands and using those to a certain extent. Palma non sine pulvere
mowin Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I guess any part/sent of another deer could lure in another deer. I see it as a another gimmick.
dbHunterNY Posted February 4 Posted February 4 it's like with anything else. the more realistic you can make a situation the better off you'll be. it's adding another aspect of what's to be expected to seal the deal. I don't think it's worth the effort but to be honest I haven't tried it. i think it's speculation more than anything. i think that old guy had it wrong. the buck giving him the slip probably had his curiosity peaked. all the smells from the typical glands for deer in the area were visiting, but now he smelled extra deer's saliva but couldn't nail down the rest of the smells he'd expect. Is it another buck or doe? so many questions. i think deer get more scent through their preorbital and other glands. i think there's more specialty mock scrape scent kits that have more of them than just a curiosity scent to get other deer to start using it leaving a calling card that's the real deal. my biggest oldest buck to date came in confirming two of the three senses but he was still nervous. he didn't see what he expected to. another thing i see a lot now and rattling by taking a couple sets tied together and dropping them in the leaves from a rope while on stand. if a deer hears clashing of antlers but nothing else as if they're floating in the air fighting, then that's gotta be weird to a deer with years on this earth. i think that's some of why people have very limited success rattling around here. Wolc123 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Too bad deer tongues were not a little bigger. I always liked pickled beef tongue a little better than the hearts. Pickled moose tongue is about the best wild game that I’ve ever tasted (those are a little larger than beef tongues). I only ended up with 2 deer hearts last year, so my wife will be doing a beef tongue or two with the batch she pickles for me for Valentine’s Day this year. Edited February 4 by Wolc123
