I don't run hunting dogs, but I'm concerned for my 3.  I'm sure whatever info you can provide will be helpful to all dog owners.

Wow wasn't even thinking about this .  Makes it scary just to walk them . Heck cooper eats everything . Thats scary . What about turkey season ?

I am thinking just too Many Canada Geese lumped too close together where they eat and "go".

I don't  Think the Bird Flu will affect Bird Dogs. At least,I have not heard anything. The end of Pheasant  Season is coming up soon enough at the end of February  .

I've been approached to write something on prevention of Avian Flu and its ramifications for working dogs. Anyone share that concern? Doing anything differently this season?

Thanks.

You should write this also on the NJ Sister Site. A huge number of hardcore Bird Hunters are on that site.

Hard to say, Bill.

There are farmed birds that some hunters never recover in the field. I've had dogs bring back dead birds not shot by me a few times.

FYI - it can affect dogs and cats.

Hope this does not affect Pheasant Stockkng gor next Fall. Some Antis will probably  go after Turkey Hunting also.

This could Snowball in a way none of here want.

The farm by us that had it they had to destroy  all the animals on the farm .  So makes.you wonder if the dogs can't just pick it up running around by a pond ?

The last place they will go would be for wild birds. They would start with domestic chickens, turkeys, ducks, etc. first and that’s not happening.

That would coincide with a Channel 12 News report of a few days back. A few places that sold Live Domestic Turkeys were shown.

I sometimes see huge Trucks with Yellow Chicken Crates - all full heading to the Hasidic  Village of Kiras Joel to be inspected and Butchered. They would definitely  be affected in any future Decision regarding a Mass Purge of Chickens.

Funny, I just read an article saying they found avian flu antibodies in waterfowl dogs down south. Now that doesn't mean the wild population is riddled with it as many people don't realize how many domestic ducks that escaped are shot vs actual wild ducks. Anyway back to the topic, I think they found no evidence of any dog to dog transmission. Honestly, I'm not going to change anything. Cant be scared of everything in life. I'll still be catching Pigeons to use for dog training this summer as always and I'll still be going out for birds here and out west. I doubt many guys will change anything about what they do. At most some casuals might stop, but die hards wont care. Might make getting training chukars harder, but we'll still get them.

There have been mass killings of domestic flocks for many years already. That is largely the reason for our high egg prices currently.

Probably  more to come unfortunately.

This is of concern- of course the bird hunting season is now months away, but the hunt test season is just beginning and the availability of birds for training and tests may be a problem.
