This is nowhere near the caliber of Nontypical’s beast but it’s from this week.  I put a buddy in one of my stands and got to watch the whole hunt .  The buck was 3 yards behind him for 5 minutes and he had no idea it was there!  I was dying!

Glad to see so many familiar names here. Just wanted to add that a few of my cams started showing a big increase in chasing last night. Also seeing several new bucks making an appearance the last few days, even if it’s mostly at night. Good to see them starting to come out of the woodwork.

I hunted here in northwest NJ yesterday afternoon until dark. Chased a sleeping bear off that was about 12 yards from my one bow stand and climbed up. Didn’t see deer move until the sun was setting, but then two bucks came in. A nice up and comer 2 1/2 year old 8 and a scrappy 3 point. Neither seemed to have swollen necks or cared about chasing the does. I got out in the dark and drove 25 minutes home where a bruiser 8 was cruising through my yard in full rut mode. I also watched a young buck chasing in my woodlot this morning.

It’s looking like a short, intense rut year this year. Time will tell. But it would be nice to get a serious cold snap.

I bailed a little after 9.  Too much treesurfing for a overweight idiot in a tree. Lol.  Plus direction shifted a bit. Prob not back out til Monday as Sunday looks like a washout .  But Monday looks great to be out all day!

If you do a search for Metonic Rut, they predict a short very intense rut this year. Every 19 years the moon phases line up exactly the same. 1984 and 2003 had the same exact moon phases as this year. Both years experienced a very short and intense rut. I think things are going to increase very quickly.

Charlie would be proud of you!  He was a good one, and sorely missed.

And he was a fellow New Yorker!
