Bond,James Bond Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I would say not many. I have both seen and heard Rooster Pheasants in Mid April as,I Turkey Scout. They are Quite Vocal in between the Gobbling before Sunrise. Mostly it has been off of Pulaski Highway and Indiana Road in the Goshen,NY Blackdirt. I do quite a bit of Hiking back about 1 mile in as Indiana Road Curves to the North. So some Pheasants are Surviving the Coyotes and other Predators and making it to the Spring. How about you-- seeing or hearing any Rooster Pheasants in Mid April or on?
Mike103 Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Yes but very few. With the number of predators we have in this state and lack of upland bird cover not many last. Joe T and Bond,James Bond 2
Mattypotpie8s Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Yeah I’ve seen some around in spring. Not uncommon Bond,James Bond 1
Buckladd Posted February 22 Posted February 22 For sure, we have a private lease near a WMA where pheasants are stocked and I've seen them during turkey season. Bond,James Bond 1

Dogman Posted February 22 Posted February 22 If you live in an area with farm & Ag they do tend to have a chance at making it. Because of food available. Off subject now ~ My morning's start out reading the news and this morning I saw Kid Rock wearing a really cool hat related to pheasant hunting .Perhaps one of you younger folks can post a picture of it here Bond,James Bond 1
Pygmy Posted March 26 Posted March 26 There are a couple of places that I spring turkey hunt that are close to where they release pheasants in the fall.....Every spring I see and hear a few roosters.....Oddly though they do release some hens, also, I have never seen a hen in the spring.. Whenever I hear a cockbird crow, I think " That poor lonely bastard.."............ Bond,James Bond 1
BAS Posted March 27 Posted March 27 When they first tried restoring wild turkeys they used farm rasied birds and they all got killed. It wasn't until they transplanted wild birds that the population started to grow. I am sure the same goes for pheasants or most any wild animal. RocNy Sporter 1
JohnPlav Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Apparently some survive! This is pretty close to a "day old chick program - release site"... whatever that means. RocNy Sporter and BAS 2
