On my daily walk through my old oil lease, Allegany Co. , I came across a freshly dead racoon. You could see from the tracks there had been a scuffle with something.  I found what I believe are fox tracks around it. I have identified coyotes, fox, owls, and fishers on the property. I don't think the bears are awake yet. Today is the third morning the carcass is untouched.

I've come across bobcat and coon fighting areas a few times in my coon dog days.  Found dead coon with the area tore up.  Dog ended up treeing bobcats every time.

Someone took mr racoon home with them last night. I screwed up camera placement, too close I think, but did capture this yote.  My guess is the coon and fisher tangled. There is a deer carcass nearby, all the local yotes, foxes, fisher, owls and crows should be well fed.

If you cant see the coyote in that picture, it's because I downloaded the wrong one and deleted the right one.

Fishers have a mean disposition, and can be very territorial. Especially around a food source. A fisher the size of the one in your picture could easily kill a raccoon. Then just leave it there for a hungry coyote to scavenge.

Great post!

This all to the dismay of my southern brethren that prefer a roasted raccoon to venison.  Lol

I’ve seen too many long skinny worms come crawling out of them while skinning, I even keep the chickens away from them lol

I'll admitt to eating raccoon a time or two during the years I lived in SC.  Definitely not as good as venison!

Definitely wasn't a car, at least a mile from my road, which is little traveled.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
