josephmrtn Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Here's a money saving tip for y'all, with the outrageous prices of meat the last year or so we no longer can afford to buy pork chops or other sliced meat on a regular basis, instead we cut our own. Yesterday I got this 8¼ lb pork loin at Sam's club for $16.28. cut I up today into 3/4" pork chops and it made 27 of them which is roughly enough for 5 meals for our current family size. I bag them up into ziplock bags and put them in the freezer until we are ready to use them. I've also done the same thing with beef loins or like a round eye cut, although the price on those yesterday was around $130 a piece. Just sharing how we save money and still afford to keep some meat in our kids diet when we don't have venison and get tired of eating chicken. Hope this helps some folks Ncountry, Bolt Action, mowin and 8 others 11
Doebuck1234 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 I try to do this aswell.may save an end or two for a roast in the crockpot also josephmrtn, mowin and DirtTime 3
Stubborn1vt Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 We have done this, at least when my brother or best friend didn't raise pigs. josephmrtn and mowin 2
Bucksnbows Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 We’ve been buying bulk meats for over 25 years. We vacuum seal after cutting into portion size, write date and what’s inside, and freeze them for later use. Costco has been our main go to store, but anytime there’s a sale, we buy bulk and break it down from there. josephmrtn, Bolt Action, DirtTime and 3 others 4 2 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
Lawdwaz Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Good job Joe, your using your head for more than a hat rack. Wegman's Club Pack chicken and pork tenderloins are a great value too if you have them close enough.......
crappyice Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Hey!!! That's where these came from....with my own version of a meat cuber!
Redneck4Life Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Hannaford just had assorted bone in pork chops for .99 lb last week. But we do alot of bulk shopping too. paula 1
DoubleDose Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Timely, I literally just saw on the news today that economic analysts are predicting meat/beef prices to rise 50%. mowin 1
paula Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 If I see chicken for sale for 99 or less I buy all I can. The beef I get comes vacuumed sealed. My pigs come in paper and I vacuum seal it. I actually was given a few packs of venison for Christmas Doebuck1234 1

Chicken leg quarters used to be able to get them for .39 lb by the 10 lb bag. Not anymore at grand union or iga or locally owned supermarket. paula 1
grampy Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Having a large freezer, and buying bulk or sale, is what we've been doing for a long time. Makes even more sense in these crazy times. JJBat150 1
Stubborn1vt Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Sometime soon I will head to the farm with a truck load of firewood for my brother. He'll send me home with what I want for beef and pork. I don't want to think what our grocery bill would be without venison and meat from the farm. We still buy a small amount of chicken, but that's about it. Robhuntandfish, mowin and paula 3
Moho81 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Like most of you we have also been buying in bulk for years. When we see a good sale we buy a lot then freeze it in vacuum freezer bags in one meal sized portions. We will buy whole loins and break it down into whatever we want then freezer it. It really helps to save money. paula 1
paula Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Also at the beginning of summer I bought a few cases to tomatoes to make my sauce and a case of kidney beans. Glad I did because they also went up in price.
Bolt Action Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I do the same when there's room in the freezer. If I see meat on sale, especially around holidays (turkey or ham), I'll grab a few and throw them in the freezer. I do the same with pork or beef or chicken that I see on sale. I'll buy what I have room for, take it home and repackage/vacuum seal it and then into the freezer it goes. Stubborn1vt 1
