2BuckBizCT Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 (edited) Anyone planning/applying for hunts out of state this year? I don't think I am (besides deer hunting NY), but will continue to buy my PP's in Wyoming even though I am in no man's land I guess. Edited August 15, 2024 by mowin
Ncountry Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 (edited) As of now , we are planning an over the counter Elk archery hunt again in Colorado.. Plans are to actually make an effort (lol) to get into better shape so we are capable of packing an animal out 5 miles.. Edited January 18, 2023 by Ncountry Moog5050, Nomad, dbHunterNY and 2 others 5
Splitear Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I'm always tempted to get my Illinois license and do a little bow hunting when we go home over Thanksgiving. I always talk myself out of it though since I can't bring myself to not spend time with family that I only get to see a couple times a year. It does sting though when I see a field full of deer driving between family members. One of these days I might carve out a few hunts. 2BuckBizCT and Ncountry 2
Bolt Action Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I'll be down in OBX in May and would love to take a day trip inland for a hog hunt. Was going to last year but the weather didn't cooperate so we ended up cancelling that and our inshore charter. The biggest challenge aside from actually connecting on a hog would be what to do with it. I'd love to do a whole hog roast, but it doesn't seem practical since we'd be in a resort microtel. I also don't love the idea of keeping it packed on ice in a cooler in the Carolinas for a week before I can get it into my home freezer. Based on that, we'd be looking to have the outfitter / lodge connect us with someone who can break it down, freeze it and ship it to us so that there isn't waste.

My partner and I have four points for Iowa. I still do. 2022 was the 1st year I didn't , only cause my dog got sick so I didn't go. Had a good trip in 2020. I have 4 points for Iowa too. Got to hunt there 4 times. 1st(2005) year zone 5 took me one year to draw. Ncountry, phade, Dr Juice and 7 others 9 1
eaglemountainman Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 (edited) Applying to New Mexico for Oryx and muley tags. If I don't pull either of those, I might burn my Wyoming antelope points. Of course, I'll be making my 35th yearly donation to the Maine moose lottery. And the trek from Florida to deer camp in the Catskills for a month. Good luck to all those entering the draws. Farflung Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Still in the thinking stage. Buddy and I each have 5 Wyoming preference points and 4 mulie points. If his family health situation improves, we may use this year. If things don't pan out, I'm thinking about a Idaho OTC liscence hunt. I waited to long to start this. I'm 73 and those WY hills don't get any less steep with each passing year.
Farflung Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Eagle Mountain- used my WY antelope points last year. Had a great time, stayed in Kaycee, ate (and drank) well. Used a guide, mainly to get on good private land. Went with my nephew equivilent, that was his first time out west. I went out for antelope in 2015 and had a successful trip that time too. Love WY.
Buckmaster7600 Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 I’ll definitely go back to Ontario this year for the same 2 weeks. The drive is awful but the hunting is amazing! if I tag out in the adk’s I’ll head to Maine. I’ll head down to Mass if they have snow for late Muzzloader.

Pig on a spit and a keg on ice. Come one come all! PS - my wife told me to tell you to stop encouraging me... On a side note - the charter captain sent me the deposit invoice for this year's trip. He actually re-refunded me from last year's deposit. I reached out to clarify that I was supposed to pay him the deposit. He reply : "F__ me.. sorry 'bout that. it was a long night!" mowin 1
