lucky118 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 To send your opinions on this to your representative. Hopefully it doesn't pass as I hunt state land exclusively. https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/A5728 nywaw, GreeneHunter and grampy 3
grampy Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 This is another stupid way for the Queen Governor to show here disdain for hunters and guns. There has never been any conclusive proof, that game killed by a lead bullet has caused lead poisoning in anyone. Or, contributed to lead in any drinking water. Myself and our sportsman's club, has already contacted our representatives, to show we are against this. But we live in NY. So we know Hochel and her kangaroo courts, will sadly do as they please. No such thing as pro hunter, or gun owner here anymore. lucky118, Rob-c, Spaceman Spiff and 2 others 5

Ogee Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 A little closer to passing this every year since introduction. My Assembly person doesn’t even respond to comments sent. And my State Senator lost, and the new one is pathetic. What a nightmare to try and enforce any of it.
Meatball Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Thank you for the heads up. I feared this would happen, I found a few boxes of copper rounds a ways back and grabbed them. Quite ridiculous to assume we leave enough rounds hunting "big" game that the water would be contaminated. I bet there's more old buildings that have some lead pipes left in them, that would do more damage to a body.
dbHunterNY Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 If you haven't already I highly recommend creating a profile account and then searching for bills that have to do with hunting, firearms, or anything else you care about. click Nay or Yes to show that if you support or don't support it .....and most importantly get notifications about this bill. Any time it moves out of or into committee or throughout the process you'll get an email notification. Easily shared with local rod and gun clubs, etc if crap is not looking good.

Yes, that has been proven to be true in a miniscule number of raptors, that may feed on a gut pile. Likely though, that many more raptors are killed flying in front of cars. Or eating poisoned mice and rats. A copper bullet will kill a deer just as efficiently as a lead bullet. I have no argument there. My argument is having another BS law shoved down our throats. On the premise that the lead bullet I fired, kills more than once. With no scientific data to back it up. Just to pass more anti gun laws, by politicians that know nothing about what they are voting on. Or the wildlife and water sheds they claim to be protecting. Only that guns are bad!!!!

Only that guns are bad!!!! we're on the same page. Just wanted to add some color that the lead bullet or shot is completely lacking in any harm. Ballistics are interesting too. Tungsten is the new choice of most turkey hunters and copper for some game at some ranges will out perform lead. So it's not like we're giving up poor performance for safer alternatives in most cases either (like with asbestos or r22 refrigerants etc) That said, it's hard enough to find affordable ammo and we need lead lol. Mike103 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Added to all the other laws being passed in NYS to deny us the use of firearms it’s hard to believe that this one is altruistic.
