Otter drowning set

I caught this medium male otter in a drowning set a few days ago. Haven't water trapped in years but felt good to be at it again.

Nice catch.  Just out of curiosity, what does a otter pelt go for?

Nice! The most fun I had trapping was with drowning sets. We trapped from a canoe along a river setting up traps  for beaver.  It was a little hairy though in early spring when the ice was still flowing down the river.

Maybe $25.00 if you're lucky. Taxidermists would pay more for it than the fur market. In fact the fur market has been lousy for years now.  China , covid and Russia's invasion of Ukraine will hurt the market even more.

I caught him in a blind set. Just find the trail where he exits the water , set your trap and blend it in.  They do sell commercial lures for otters.

I use a heavy beaver castor lure for them when I lure an otter set
