    Unbelievable... 

    That Hunter could have Died on impact if he landed any other way. He should have got 1 year at least in Jail. And lose his Hunting privilege for 5 years .

   I do see more Trail Cameras on Public then just a few years back.   Hopefully no more episodes like this over a " Claimed" area on Public.

Plea deals have got to stop. He should have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and I'm no lawyer, but this was premeditated manslaughter or whatever that accounts to. You well know that cutting the tree stand straps on a stand that high could absolutely lead to immediate death if not lifelong paralysis or other severe medical conditions. This is absolutely fucking disgusting.

Yet another self induced black eye for the hunting community... I'd like to say I'm shocked he got off so lightly, but we all know how the CJ system is in shambles at best. 

Anyone who thinks they own a "spot" (especially on public) or a "deer" are clowns in my book. This guy's mentality is all too common these days. I have acquaintances who teeter on this mentality and I will never understand it.

Happens all the time. My buddy was renting a farm house and the owner gave us permission to hunt the 150acre farm. Well it had people trespassing for years on it so we made it known that it was off limits according to the owners.  Well 2 of our ladder stands had the support straps cut and 1 of the hang ons went missing. my friend luckily figured it out when he started climbing and the stand came away from the tree instead of realizing after he was at the top.

i think it's pretty fitting that he pay for medical bills and that he got lost hunting privileges for who knows how long. hopefully years. WVC means he can't hunt basically anywhere. I'm torn with the jail time. thing is lock him away forever and he can't pay the victim's med bills or be a productive member of society. 1 year probation though? that's f*ed up in my mind. probation can put real restraints on people and unless you're a delinquent you care to abide by it and not go to jail for a long ass time. He should've had a good 5+ years instead of just one year of it. as many of you said, what he did was premeditated with real consequences.

Any dirtbag that would cut the straps of someone's tree stand, should be charged with attemted murder!! This crap about "this is my spot" is just that!!! We have had idiot scumbags mess with our stands on PRIVATE property! Because we gave them the boot. Or they were envious we had our own land and they didn't. Our land borders state land. And it's always an issue dealing with the low life scum that sometimes goes there. Most all of the hunters on the state land are good people, and I've had some great meet up's  with them. But the small percentage of idiots ruins it for all.

I want to add that the same deer on our property, also is on the state land too! We don't have a high fence! If you know what you are doing, You have as good a chance on the state land as we do on our private! But some see what's on the other side of a posted sign, as a deer heaven that we keep to ourselves. Couldn't be farther from the truth. People just suck!!!

Public land has some monsters taken on it every year! Over 37% of nys is public land!!
